Your Status

This page describes the possible (growing) status of a visitor of a wikidot-site.

1.) You have no account

Then you -

  • are a visitor like all other internet users of the world;
  • are for wikidot.com an "anonymous" user - known only by the used IP address;
  • can read all public sites, all public pages;
  • can post & edit , if extra allowed in the permissions in some "public" wikis;
  • have no chance to read in private sites any page - except the "landing page" (known as "system:join");
  • can create an account with your E-mail address.

2.) You have an account but are not logged in

Then you

  • are a "registered member" of wikidot.com - but the wikidot.com system does not know you without your login;
  • can receive private messages from other Wikidot-accounts, but you will not be notified from this;
  • can receive E-Mails from wikidot.com ( sometimes this will happen);
  • have the same situation as before in 1.)!

3.) You have an account and you are logged in

Then generally you -

  • are a "registered member" of wikidot.com - known internal by wikidot by your User-id and your E-mail address;
  • can control your account;
    • can change your user-id (max 2x);
    • can change your profile;
  • can receive private messages from other Wikidot-accounts;
  • can send private messages to other registered members of Wikidot;
  • can have "contacts" - other members of wikidot with/without their E-mail address
  • can read all public sites, all public pages;
  • can post & edit & file upload, if allowed in the permissions in some "public" wikis - like an anonymous visitor;
  • have no chance to read in private sites any page:
    • except the "landing page" (known as "system:join");
    • except you are a member/mods/admin of it.
  • can get membership of a wiki by "Join Button", application, site password or invitation;
  • can create your own wiki - you are the owner & master.

4.) Logged in and are a member of a wiki

Additional to all issues in 3.) you -

  • can read all pages of such wiki - even it is private;
  • can post & edit & file upload, if allowed in the permissions in such wiki - even it is private.

5.) Logged in and are an admin of a wiki

Additional to all issues in 4.) you -

  • control all in such wiki within the "Site_manager" - does not matter if private or public;
    • can post & edit & file upload - this is always allowed for admins;
    • can remove members, mods & admins of such wiki;
    • can ban registered members of wikidot of such wiki ( in case of spam or forbidden content).
    • can invite other registered members of wikidot to get membership of such wiki;
  • can not remove the owner (master) of such wiki (if you are a guest-admin);

6.) Logged in and are the master (owner) of a wiki

Additional to all issues in 5.) you -

  • are responsible for the content of your wiki (don't forget the terms of Service!);
  • can rename (or delete) the wiki;
  • can add adsense to your own wiki. ( if pro-status)
