sketch of the web site idea in a tree-structured editor

For creating a sketch of a web site, you may prefer a tree-structured text editor over MS Word. The hierarchical tree structure allows you to have a visual idea of how the pages will be linked:

Tree-strucured editors are usually lighter than MS Word while they have most of the functions you are likely to need.

application sharing + voice conversation

You can specify in your post that you'd be happy to receive support in real time over VoIP (e.g. Skype).

You may combine what is called "application sharing" with the live voice conversation for best results. Application sharing means that the person at the other computer can see what is going on your screen.

Some programs for application sharing:

While the benefits are obvious, you must take into account some reasons why other users could be reluctant to help you this way:

  • you have not specified at what hours and days you would be available
  • they may fear it would take a lot of time
  • they may fear the conversation would stray from the point and take even more time
  • they may fear you may develop a relationship which would involve even more communication and even more time
  • they may just not have the time for a conversation

What you can do:

  • tell when you would be available for contact
  • tell how long you are going to keep it
  • promise you'd keep the conversation straight to the point
  • you may also promise (and follow up!) to give a summary of the solution for your issue once it has been resolved. This way you would give back to the community by adding to the knowledge in it.
