Hi Brunhilda - which layout do you mean ?
- a floating text down the first columns and than following in the next column ( like in a news paper) ? or
- like a table with 2 columns - left cell the bibcite and right the bibliography text ?
This needs more clarification.
Have you a good page with a lot of bibliography I can copy and test with it?

I made a little test ( the popup windows does not work in the forum-post, but on pages…!) :
The first pulsar was observed by J. Bell and A. Hewish [1]. Another reference [see 2].
The next pulsar was observed by J. Bell1 and A. Hewish [3]. Another reference [see 4].
The 2 pulsar was observed by J. Bell2 and A. Hewish [5]. Another reference [see 6].
