I don't mind starting over with a new site from scratch, it really needs the work, but some things do bother me about it:
1. Losing the dates on article and review pages, when I remake the site the date will appear the same for all, it's more natural to see dates covering a wide range of time and with a number of articles all having the same date stamp, it appears spammy.
2. Losing members. Granted, the site only has maybe 40 members, 99% of them are probably inactive but it's an ego thing and when I display a list of members it encourages others t join too. Starting over means losing that list of site members.
3. Risk of making a mistake. For example I use pinterest to help promote the site, but if I miss an image on the new site then some of promotional effort will be broken.
I only get about 1000-2000 visitors per month depending on the season (currently at 2000, sometimes as low as 500) but the site means more to me than visitors as it was the first wikidot site I built back in 2007. I'd really prefer to get it back in shape without a complete wipe. I didn't realize until now that I could not actually delete a forum, threads, etc…
To give an example of how this effects Google. When I listed all pages using the list pages module, it showed around 120 results but Google has 324 pages indexed, that's a lot of "junk" pages for Google to index that will never be ranked. In trying to decide which pages I want to retain, I've pruned out about 60 pages so my list all pages now shows 66, but won't get rid of all the oddball pages like individual forum posts. It's really messing with my OCD because I went into this with the goal being to have ZERO issues.
Also, DELETED portions of the forum (I.E. posts and categories moved to the "hidden" area) are still indexed by google, even if they don't appear to users. Here is proof of google showing 56 results for forum pages on my site, note the deleted threads results. This is a third of the posts on my site that are indexed in Google: https://www.google.com/search?btnG=1&pws=0&q=site%3Apbbg.wikidot.com%2F+inurl%3Aforum&gws_rd=ssl
