Thinking of the upcoming Wikidot blogging platform in Wikidot 2.0 I'd like to share an idea stemming out of my frustration with traditional blogs.
The comments section under an article is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand it is a pleasure for the author to receive attention to his article. Sometimes comments not only add a damn good deal of useful information to the article but they may also contain deeper points than the article itself!
On the other hand, more often than not comments do not say anything meaningful. What's worse it often happens those 90% useless comments clutter and hide the 10% good stuff.
What about an option in the future Wikidot blogging platform to have two panes for comments - one pane for all comments (the traditional one) and another pane which could contain snippets from the first one, containing "only the meat"?
"But who would decide what to be cut from the first section to remain in the second pane?" you may ask. Well there are two options here - either the author decides or it is a wiki section. The two panes would also have separate RSS feeds.
