I wonder why I can't use my subdomain with www. prefix. It is bad, because this approach is well-known for people.

I would like to chanage at least text:

The site does not exist.

to
The site does not exist. Please try typing adress without www. prefix.

Thanks for help in advance,

Milhaus

P.S. And sorry for my English.

Hi,

I have done sth better: when you enter your site name with the "www" prefix, e.g. http://www.milhaus.wikidot.com, you will be automatically redirected (vie 301 redirection) to http://milhaus.wikidot.com. This should also work for specific pages, e.g. http://www.milhaus.wikidot.com/how-to-edit-pages.

I did not think it might be an issue but the fix was quick. Thanx!

I've also been having trouble with this. http://www.compmed.info/ works fine, but
http://compmed.info/ still goes to my old yahoo starter page.

The example on the custom domain setup page is www format.

I guess I can live with it, but do you know how to fix it so both work?

Ok, this is because example.com and www.example.com are 2 different domains. At present Wikidot can handle only one of them.
What people usually do is creating a "301" redirection for e.g. example.com -> www.example.com. At the moment you would have to do this redirection somewhere else.

I could not find any free services to offer 301 redirections… However it would be possible for Wikidot to offer such redirections. So I will think about it since it might make sense.

Thank you for the quick reply. It's good to know the answer so that I can stop worrying about it.

www.example.com is fine but as you say, having the redirect would be better.
If you decide to offer this service it will be appreciated.

Look at Custom Domain settings now: you can define up to 3 redirects which should fix it.
So you might want to add e.g. "example.com" to be redirected to the proper url: "www.example.com".
