It's realy hard for peopels who've just started whit wikidot to control al the settings
A "Wikidot for Dummies" is a good idea. Perhaps one day….
Meanwhile, what settings are you having problems with?

I have seen StefanM is writting a "technical book" about wikidot. in german ! ( several chapters are finished) - now his book site is private… but i think he writes for database admins, system programmers, web designers and not for "normal people".
I think about a book " Wiki's for all" ( in german!) - "how and why to create and use a wiki" ( special of course on wikidot !)
for our uncles, brothers, colleguas , friends in our clubs and all other "dummies" without interesting on CSS, or dataforms (perhaps later ?)… not for technicians..
I am often affraid when I ask in book shops how less people know what a "wiki" is…
We should really think about this!
Regards
Helmut

Wow, an awesome idea :-D Rob, the cover is great.
Do you think this could be a community-driven effort?

Well… dummies.wikidot.com was available… so I decided to hog it :P
The question is, in what way will this be different from the handbook?

in what way will this be different from the handbook?
I have seen a lot of questions from newbees about the "html" based codings ( style=" ", CSS, div's, tables, a.s.o)
I think - the BASIC's of a Wiki are the standard Link syntax and standrd tables and standard (text) codings - without any "deeper" programming codes we are used to use today… for layout changes on the fly….
Perhaps the Modules are too - to much for newbees?
The level is sometimes too deep for real newbees to use a wiki as it was thought at the beginnings…
it is too much documentation overall for the "srandard usage" of a wiki…
this is my feeling — and my thought about a (german) book "Wiki's for all" goes in the same directiom.
Wikis for "families", sporting clubs, communities a.s.o - without styling comands, javasript and strange sub-inclucdes from includes from strange "foreign sites"… and themes and templates and permissions and forums…. and dataforms (!)
All this stuff is perfect for us - we are handling these codes since years - but for beginners this is a very high border to step over.
Perhaps we sholuld divide the documentation ( handbook) into a wikidot light ( not to say poor) and wikidot heavy - the literature as the help over the site manager and the account dashboard ?

Thanks to Keneth : http://dummies.wikidot.com/start :))
Would be an interesting part to put in a forum (likle the admin forum -only PAGES ( not teh standard forum !) to have a discussion base for us…
Edit:
http://forum-template.wikidot.com/ from pieter or
http://nocomment.wikidot.com/section:section-one from shane should be working enough..
or all this is too much agaion and a standard forum is easier…

I am involved in a complex undertaking, so I don't think my needs quite match the dummies one. BUT, is there any way to just have the code for a "standard" wiki blog or a standard wiki discussion site?
If you want to discuss a topic (e.g., global warming research), then use this wikipedia like site.
If you want to have a blog, use this wordpress like site?
Maybe some folks with wikis like this would volunteer their existing code to create a series of "easier" don't look under the hood templates?
"standard" wiki blog or a standard wiki discussion
