Choosing better themes and colors for Ads.
A small hint

A small piece of advice for other people who use AdSense: The theme and colors you choose might make a huge difference on how often people click on your links.

I used to have the Flannel Ocean theme for the Art Tutorials Wiki. But since the Google Ads also were on a white background, they didn't exactly spring into the eye. But now I've switched to the Co theme, and the ads are much more visible - see here - and the number of clicks seems to have increased dramatically since the switch (though it's still fairly soon since the switch, and thus this might be a statistical fluctuation).

Anyway, choosing the right colors and themes is something you should carrefully think about when you are using AdSense.

Well, the new layout has been running for more than two weeks now, and I've gotten twice as many clicks as I used to. So it seems to be more than a statistical anomaly…

Yes… along with having your ads stick out, though, you do wish to make sure your members don't feel money is the reason the wiki exists. Like your art wiki holds, white on Co, is actually quite the perfect combo, the reason being, your ads do stick out a bit, but at the same time, the ads don't stick out like a sore thumb, which would make your viewers think you're trying to advertise rather than promote your own site.

Say a red advertisement box on a white background, would be rather bad, as it would guarentee your viewers see the ads, but would dissatisfy the viewers, as their eyes are constantly dragged to the ads, rather than the content they came for.

Nice thread.

I think placement of the ads is also important. Putting ads into a sidebar annoys me on some forum sites I'm visiting, and so I'm not doing that here - it just takes up too much space on the page, especially on smaller monitors. Instead, I place the ads at the bottom - so when users read all the way through a page, they will continue to read through the ads without the ads being forced down their throats like they would have been if I had placed them more centrally.

I started out trying to blend my ads completely into the site. I thought it looked nicer that way, more consistent. But despite decent amount of traffic (3000+ views), I got 0 clicks. So I'm starting to experiment with mild contrasts.
