I do not want to run it, but count me in as a possible contributor as I own a couple of the games and will be buying Modern Warfare 3 (for those that are unaware, MW3 is the next game in the Call of Duty series and is due to be released later this year by developer Infinity Ward).
My main issue would probably be finding something to contribute to.
I play the game. I win some, I lose a few. Other than discussing an extremely good game in a forum (a topic that would only last a few posts at most - "I had a great game!" … "Nice!" … "Yeah…"), I can't think of anything significant to add to the website.
So I've got a question:
- You say "help edit this wiki" … but I'm not sure what needs editing. Which pages? What content needs to be added to those pages?
And another question:
- What is the focus of your wiki? I think saying "Call of Duty" is the focus is a bit too broad… perhaps focus on a particular thing for now. For example, "This is a wiki for all of the weapons that are available in COD games" - and expand that once the weapon list is at least 50% completed to include other information.
This makes it clearer for editors like me too, we know what needs editing:
- "Oh, this is a weapon list. I'll try to find my favourite weapon, AUG."
- "Hmm, my favourite weapon isn't on the list. Let's see if I can add it."
- "I keep using it for short range, so I'll add a comment"
- leiger adds comment: "AUG is awesome for short range. I had a kill streak of 5 within 30 seconds the other day with this gun!"
- Anonymous adds comment: "Cool! I'll have to give that one a go next time I'm playing."
What I'm trying to say is that I'm a huge fan of the games - but as soon as I open up this website (wiki) I feel like closing the tab again. I don't immediately feel invited to do much, and it looks a bit general-purpose. (e.g. if making a list of weapons, show a list of the most recently-added weapons on the home page, perhaps).
Ads don't help either. I really dislike them, and that's why I only show them to anonymous users on my own sites - I don't want to force my fellow Wikidot users to see them.
