You are right Shane, I set the access to private.

I logged out and accessed my Wiki as you suggested and was able to see the non-member page. Once I logged in again and tried to access it to begin building it, the repeating loading began again. Any other recommendations?

No, I meant that after logging out, log in from a different, public wiki. For example, http://www.wikidot.com or http://community.wikidot.com

Then, open your wiki in a separate tab and you should already be logged in (because you logged in from the other tab) - the reloading should not happen then.

Let me know how you go with that?

Edit: Step by step. (for your benefit, and anyone else that reads this thread that has the same problem)

1. Log out and close all tabs
2. Open a new tab to http://community.wikidot.com (a public site)
3. Log in using that tab
4. Open a second tab to http://theadmiralscorner.wikidot.com/ (your private site)
5. You should be still logged in, and hopefully, shouldn't experience the constant-reloading problem?

This is a workaround, not meant to be a permanent fix.

If you can help to figure out why this problem is happening to you (when many other people with private sites never have the problem) then Wikidot can fix it. Only a handful of people report this problem but I don't think the cause has been found yet. Maybe it's a combination of OS, browser, cookie settings, cache settings, etc… I'm not sure what it is.

OK, I tried your step-by-step (quite helpful, thank you) but it still resulted in the constant reloading. I did however open Safari and try it there. No problems at all. I never use Safari anymore, so I'd like to be able to work my wiki in Firefox, but if I have to I guess I'll just deal.

A suggestion: back up any bookmarks, a list of the add-ons you're using, and any other settings you want to keep (manually, not using any backup/restore feature that firefox has), and try re-installing Firefox. There must be a setting in firefox causing this to happen, and by re-installing, I suspect it might reset that setting to something that will work.

Then of course, try adding your settings back in. Bookmarks shouldn't change anything, but if you're changing cache or cookie settings (for example) just make one change at a time and see if the reloading problem occurs. Might help to pinpoint the cause. It's possible that one of your add-ons is causing this behaviour too.

Of course, that assumes that a clean re-installation of firefox will fix the problem. If it doesn't, then I'm not sure what else to suggest.

I did the reinstall of Firefox and disabled all my addons for it, but the site still seizures. I thought it might be my adblocker addon, but disabling it doesn't do anything. Until I'm more interested in/have more time to ferret out the issue with my Firefox, I will just use Safari. Thanks for all your help so far.

Could you try creating a second private site and see if you have the same problem?

• or by going to the URL you wanted, and clicking "create site" when it told you the site doesn't exist yet
• or by cloning a website that existed already, and then making it private later

It's possible that one of those methods causes the site to act strangely if it's private.

On a side note - what do you think of Safari 5 extensions? (similar to Firefox add-ons in a way) The extension gallery hasn't been activated yet but there's a collection to try out on a third-party website: http://safariextensions.tumblr.com/ (also, see my blog post for more info on what else is new)

I created it through the first option you listed; filled in the name and away it went (or should have). I tried accessing it through my account's sidebar option, but it was still the same.

Is there a way I can retroactively make it public? I haven't seen that option anywhere.

I have no idea about Safari 5's stuff. This was the first time in almost a year I opened it so I'm not sure I have the latest version. I'm working on a 6 year old computer with an OS two generations behind, so most of the time I'm happy as much works as does.

Go to your site manager at http://theadmiralscorner.wikidot.com/admin:manage, select Access Policy and choose Open (or Closed, depending on the policy you want)

As for Safari… it's likely that Safari will eventually support similar extensions to the add-ons that you use in Firefox. If the only reason for you switching to Firefox was for the add-ons, then you may be able to switch back permanently (assuming you wanted to).

I use Google Chrome, which also has extensions/add-ons. You might want to try that as it seems to need less resources to run and therefore might be better on an older computer.
