Hi all,
I was just wondering if it is possible when using [[tabview]] to have it automatically cycle through the tabs (~ every 10 seconds) until one of the tabs is clicked?
Cheers

I think you'd need to find some kind of javascript solution for something like this. A quick Google search found scrolling tabs (but not autoscrolling). The carousel script is also interesting.

Thanks Ed,
I'll have a look into it and let you know how i go…
Bryce
There is a script for cycling through tabs and you can set the time delay. As Ed rightly pointed out, it requires javascript. For a working version and the relevant code, have a look at my page here.

Thanks Rob,
I was kind of hoping to get it working on the wikidot tabs because i've already changed their appearance for the site theme (as you can see here), but i'll have a go at getting those tabs to look the same (when i find time!).
Bryce
I came across the Nivo jQuery image slider and attempted to put it into wikidot…and surprisingly I got it working very quickly. The only downside is that I'll have to create images for each 'tab' instead of being able to edit it directly, but that's something i can put up with for the cool transitions.
There is one problem though…
When you click on the link on one of the images (Wall-E) it opens the new page within the [[html]] block, and not in the browser window. If anyone knows how to fix this it would be great…(I remind you my HTML knowledge is non-existent so the fix is probably very simple!).
The link is created under the <div id="slider">.
You can look at it here.
Thanks,
Bryce
Just add a target="_top" as follows:
<a href="http://youreview.wikidot.com" target="_top"><img src="http://nivo.dev7studios.com/images/walle.jpg" alt="WallE" title="WallE" /></a>
Having looked at quite a few jQuery slideshows recently, the Nivo one is certainly my favourite.

Thanks Rob,
It worked a treat. Now to design the images…
Bryce
I don't have time to check the code at the moment — but I assume those images can be turned into links? That would be a perfect feature for my website's homepage, similar to how the wikidot homepage works.
Edit: Oops, I really need to pay more attention to these comments. That's what the whole problem was! In that case, can you duplicate that effect on the sandbox bcammo, or at least, post the source code here? Thanks.!

I've put the source code under the slider here. The Wall-E image has a link on it.
I've had a bit of trouble getting the controlNav buttons to position properly beneath the slider so i've turned them off until i can fix them.
Bryce
Thanks! I'm going to have fun messing around with this ;-)

I like the Nivo slider more than any other jQuery slider I've come across. One site I've used it on is as a banner slider here although without the title bar and without the buttons under slider which, like Bryce, I've had a bit of trouble getting to display. I'll keep looking at why that is an issue.

I don't see the banner slider on that website Rob. All I see is about 200px high of white space at the top of every page.

It's just done that for me too on Firefox, IE8, chrome and Safari but was absolutely fine 10 hours ago. The slideshow is on a page called slideshow:banner and I've put an include in the live template to display the slideshow on all default pages:
[[include slideshow]]
%%content%%
If I go to the _template page, and edit and re-save with no changes then it seems OK on that page but the include still fails. I've cleared the cache on my computer so that isn't the problem, it seems to be either some sort of cacheing issue on the wikidot servers or there is a problem with calling javascript in an html block via an include.
I've now just added the [[include slideshow:banner]] directly into the home:page page and it shows up fine. I've left the live template in place for the default category and it's not showing up so I think the problem is having an html codeblock in a live template and calling it with an include. I wonder if this is a bug.

It is for me now, but I had to go through and re-save quite a few pages as I was getting a message "included page slideshow:banner does not exist (create it now?", probably something to do with me changing the name from slideshow to slideshow:banner.
Shane, could you have another look at http://strathcentre.wikidot.com and let me know if you now see the slideshow banner.
There's definitely something odd going on.

I wonder if this issue is related in any way to the one at http://community.wikidot.com/forum/t-232442/include-blocks-occasionally-show-up-as-no-such-block#post-745094

Rob, can you take a look at my test page and see if you can figure out why it's behaving the way it is?
I made a clone of the banner page you pointed us to so I could see how this slider worked. I am getting a weird "flash" when the image changes for some reason instead of the smooth transition you're getting on your site. It's especially weird because all I did was borrow your code and images — essentially recreating your page so I could play with some of the different settings.
Even including your banner via CSI, it plays smooth and the one I created does not. Any ideas on what's up? I first I thought it might be a public/private site thing, but the behavior didn't change after moving the page to my public site.

Certainly Ed.
OK I've had a look.
Your code wasn't identical: change the wikidot.com domain on every link to wdfiles.com. I found that I needed to do that to remove the jumpiness.
Rob Elliott - Strathpeffer, Scotland - Wikidot first line support & community admin team.
I've done it for you (I hadn't realised that editing was open). It has solved the jumpiness.
One thing I haven't got sorted yet is the buttons under the slider so they have been removed and I've also taken out the left and right arrows. I need to do a bit more work on this.
Rob Elliott - Strathpeffer, Scotland - Wikidot first line support & community admin team.
I can only think that using the wdfiles domain instead of the wikidot domain removes one call to another domain so makes the display of the image slightly quicker. I hit on this when experimenting with another bit of jQuery and it certainly seems to work.

Thanks for sorting this out. I didn't notice the wikidot.com vs. wdfiles.com difference when trying to figure out the problem.
I've done it for you (I hadn't realised that editing was open).
I figured you might have a solution so I opened up editing for that category.

An old post, but oh well…
For anyone still interested, I finally got the little buttons beneath the slider to work with wikidot. The problem was that for whatever reason, the html block / iframe was cutting them off. On a hunch added an empty div (with height set to 30px) beneath the slider div and what do you know… it worked! You can see them in action here.
Hopefully this will help someone in the future.
Cheers,
Bryce
Yes, old post… thought I would chime in.
I've been using the Nivo sliders for some time now and never had any issues. Then recently, a few months back, for no apparent reason, all my sliders seem to suffer from that "flashing" effect just before a new transition in Google Chrome. I checked the site above (http://www.strathpeffercommunitycentre.org.uk/) and noticed it is doing the same thing there so I am assuming that this is still an issue for some of us. I recently updated the slider to newer .js files but it does not seem to repair the issue. I thought maybe it was something with Chrome but after having DL and tested on my PC using Chrome… it works fine. The problem is on Wikidot and it has not always been a problem, or at the very least there was once a solution that seemed to work for me then one day.. they are all busted.
Compare in Chrome and you will see the same flash:
http://www.strathpeffercommunitycentre.org.uk/
http://pbbg.wikidot.com/
The problem seems to persist when two conditions are set for the Nivo slider:
1) Using Google Chrome
2) When using wikidot
Yes this only seems to affect chrome as all the sites I have with the nivo slider on are fine in Firefox, IE etc, just not chrome. Even then I find it is sometimes ok on chrome.

I just took a peek at both sites listed above with Chrome and see no flashing. Transitions are smooth. I'm on a XPPro SP3 machine at the moment.
I've used scsSlideshow on a couple of sites and it seems to work well. It only offers simple fade transitions, so if you're looking for more types of transitions it's probably not a good fit. If simple fades are enough, it might be worth a look.
You can see it in action here: http://www.eagletracegolf.com
Javascript file are here.
Template page that calls the javascript is here.
I set permissions so Wikidot members can view the page source.
This is so strange. Well, at the very least, maybe this means that it looks smooth to most visitors too. I wonder if this might be due to some Chrome plugin or something.
That might be a possibility. I don't use Chrome as my primary browser, so it's running with basic install defaults on my system.
I know this is kinda old but can anyone give me a *insert blank here* version of the codes? I'd like to use this for an image carousel but im having trouble with the code
The thread rather moved away from tabs to a jquery solution. So assuming you are talking about a jquery slideshow you can see instructions for the nivo slideshow (which is the one I mostly use) at my site at http://www.strathviewconsultants.co.uk/support:jquery-nivo

And a solution for autoscrolling tabs is at http://www.strathviewconsultants.co.uk/support:scrolling-tabs where you can see the full html and javascript code.
