I´m about to start a new site, with the main purpose of storing and viewing sources related to local history studies. I actually started several years ago, but it never really took off, since I got stuck with the techy bits. I have understood data forms is the way to go if I want to make an easy interface and be able to sort the data in an easy way.
I´m thinking the sources should be categorised by:
Type (book, newspaper article, oral tradition etc.)
Depending on the type, different info will be registered:
Book: name of the book, author, year published, etc.
Oral tradition: Name of the person being interviewed, age, background, etc.
Then the whole article/book chapter/interview/archeological report as text, and/or as an image-file.
After that, the interesting quotes from the article/book/interview/archeological report categorized in different categories and subcategories. For example the category Railway, with subcategories Construction or Stations or Accidents. Some quotes may have two categories, for example Railway, and “Famous local person”.
I would like to be able to list all sources filtered by category. For example all quotes in the Railway category, from books, and newspapers but not from oral tradition.
How should I start? Is there anything I must pay attention to when planning for this structure?
