I have just got this message while trying to save a page unlogged.

Don't panic, but…
Provide your name.

I really think that this message is confusing. I would suggest different message:

You are not logged in. Please, log in to continue.

Also, I would like to say that I preferred Oops message…. It was more natural than Don't panic¹

I already know that some kind of title is needed… But, shouldn't it be just Dear user?
Even Surprise, surprise! is better than Don't panic..

1. I can think of many emotions that can overcome somebody when sees that he cannot do something on a site, but panic… :D

Are you sure you were saving a page? Because I think when you're anonymous and posting a comment it asks for your name and a few other details. Would need to log out to be sure.

Yes, you're right. I was writing a post, then logged out to check something in another window of Wikidot, and then tried to save the post. Logically, in the same browser, if you have the same site open in various windows, when you log out from one, you log out from all of them. Therefore I got this message. But anyway, I still think that the message is confusing, and it should warn that you should log in, not to give a name.

It asked only for a name.

Are you suggesting that I could have saved the post only by giving my name? That I didn't need to be logged in? It happened at Community site. If yes, where I should have written my name? And that "name", is it my real name or my Wikidot name?

The name is anything that you want. If you typed "Brunhilda" then you would appear as Brunhilda (anonymous) 28 Nov 2009, 19:41 +10.500 for example.

For the Community, anonymous users are not allowed to post. I get this error:

Sorry, you can not add new post in this thread. Only Wikidot.com registered users, members of this site, site administrators and perhaps selected moderators are allowed to.

For my own site (which does allow anonymous posting), it opens in a Guest Commenting mode. If I ignore the "name" field but enter something into the email address field, it asks me to enter my name — which is the error message you got.

I know that, but I swear I did not get this message that you show, but the one from my first post. At the Community site. I started as logged in, then I logged out with the edit widnow open, and tried to save, then I got this message, asking my name. There was no form as at your site and I did not have any place to write it. I just wanted to see what this meant, since I did not understand what this message is saying, and what is that it wants me to do, and to suggest different text. Nothing more.
