Hello Crimera,
You're in the right place for help, we'll do our best to assist you.
It might be helpful for us to have a greater understanding of exactly what you're attempting to accomplish, however. This will prevent us from leading you down the wrong track accidentally.
From what you've mentioned so far, it sounds like you've got a character page of some kind. Perhaps for a role-playing game or some movie/show.
Putting such a character on a page like character:name is a good start.
I assume you have pages like this:
- character:john-doe
- character:jane-doe
- character:yet-another-character
Now, it sounds like you would like similar pages for a command list - i.e.:
- command-list:john-doe
- command-list:jane-doe
- command-list:yet-another-character
Is that correct?
Luckily, as per the ListPages module documentation we have access to two very useful variables:
There are others, too - but these are the two we're interested in here. The %%category%% variable would refer to 'character' or 'command-list', and the %%name%% variable would refer to your character's name (i.e. 'john-doe', 'jane-doe', …)
Now, you asked about putting the links in the top navigation. I spent a couple of minutes just then playing around and couldn't remember if there was a way to do that - so I'll skip that for now. Instead, I'll explain how you can put the links on the same page. At least that way … you can put them at the top of the page. It's a workaround for now.
As per the Live Templates documentation, the template page for your 'character' category would be located at character:_template. This is a special page name that means something to Wikidot and tells it you're creating a template.
Create the character:_template page and enter the following code:
Category: %%category%%
Name: %%name%%
%%content%%
Now save, and return to your character page. Let's say it's character:bob. You should see this at the top:
Category: character
Name: bob
The words 'character' and 'bob' came from our category/name variables. And then below that is whatever else you typed into your character page (we told Wikidot to include this when we used the %%content%% variable).
Go back to the category:_template page, edit it, and paste this instead:
[[[command-list:%%name%% | Command List]]]
%%content%%
Then return to your page, e..g character:bob to see a link titled 'Command List'. And it links to a page called command-list:bob!
Does that give you enough to work with? :)
