I am looking to add some type of voting module to my site's forum posts. Would like to have the module be embedded into every new thread without my intervention. Is this possible?
You can add voting to threads automatically. Go to your site manager (_admin), select Appearance and Behaviour then page Ratings. For the Forum category select Enabled then set the other options there. Once you reload your forum pages you will see a rate button at the bottom of the page together with the number of votes in parenthesis.
HeadIpadEric's solution won't work because html cannot be embedded into forum posts here at Wikidot.
Rob Elliott - Strathpeffer, Scotland - Wikidot first line support & community admin team.
Please note that the voting module is designed to work with pages, not the forum.
All forum threads are displayed on the forum:thread page - so that means when you click on the voting module, you are actually voting up that page, not any part of the forum.
If you visit another thread, you are still on the forum:thread page, so you still see your previous vote.
There is no similar feature for forum posts - i.e. no way to vote for them, rate them, see what's the most popular, etc.
The closest thing would be for a wiki admin to mark a thread as sticky ("More Options" > "Stickness" at the top of the thread) so that they appear near the top of the forum category they are in and can be found more easily by your site members.
Quick update: I just saw RobElliott's post saying the opposite. I was sure it didn't work that way for the reason I described above, so not sure what's going on there.
Quick update (2): HeadIpadEric's suggestion might work. I found a quick rating widget tool but haven't tested it yet. If that rating widget works based on differences in the page URL, it might be enough to differentiate between separate forum threads. You could try signing up for an account, creating a rating widget, and then placing the code they give you between [
]...[
] tags on the forum:thread page.
Quick update (3): I am able to confirm your experience with the rating module affecting all threads, so what I stated originally should be correct.
