Currently my search box is defaulting the search to "pages only"
How can I have the default search be in "forum only"?

It was defaulting to "Pages and forum" before, we've changed this to "Pages" as default because many people complained that the default search was returning too many hits.
Are your users expecting to search forums by default?
I'd prefer our default to be "pages and forum". Is there some way to hand that control to site admins please?
On a related note (and a more minor one), it would be cool to have search boxes that apply to certain categories.
I know it's possible for users to construct these searches, by providing the right search terms and hitting the right radio buttons. But in certain locations, it would be good if we could preset these search conditions.
Search pages in the %%category%% category.
Hi there, sorry to jump on this thread, it is a related enquiry of sorts! I too would love to customise the default search to include uploaded file based searches rather than simply page content of my wiki. Is this at all possible, my wiki relies heavily on people being able to search for uploaded images.
Thanks
If you can set up your wiki so that there is one image per page, that will work. People can use the search boxes to find pages, which would hold just one image. Your live template would look something like this:
%%content%%
[[image :first]]

Bit tricky to be honest leiger; my wiki allows access to multiple collection specific galleries i.e. in one collection alone we have over 800 images thus 800 individual pages for just that one collection would prob. not be the best option!
Thanks anyway though. :)
You should get in touch with a guru or somebody that can help you organize things on your site… Live templates and the use of certain modules would have made possible what Leiger suggested. It's a bit of a shame that many big sites that started early never adjusted their way of working to the new possibilities of wikidot. There are more major changes coming up at wikidot… I would suggest thinking of reorganizing your site in the near future before it really becomes to big to make the change.
However your site looks great and probably you know all the ins and outs… but technically it could be better. But at this moment I would wait for the new functionality of forms.

As Steven mentioned, there are ways to solve such problems but it requires making massive, time-consuming changes now that will save you time in the future and will make your site a lot more organised. Manually creating 800 pages will be worth doing now, rather than manually creating 2000 pages in the future when your collection grows bigger.
For example, have a look at http://cyclods.wikidot.com/download:apps and try adding an application using the NewPage module at the top of the page (call it "test" for example… and I will delete the page later when you've had a chance to test it out)
If you set your wiki up the same way I've set up that applications section on my website, you will make things much easier for yourself in the future. For one, adding new images will be much easier. It also will allow you to do more complex things with your content, e.g. searching for a page (that corresponds to an image).
