Hi, I am Sandeep, new to wikidot. Is there a feature or code snippet that allows me to put a random page on my side bar?
Thanks a lot for help
regards,
Sandeep
I would be interested in this as well. It's a nifty feature of the Wikipedia, and it would be nice if this Wiki system had it as well.

I recommend it as well. For several reasons :
- It's essential for maintaining a large wiki. Part of the routine with mediawiki is to click on the "Random Page" link a few times just to do a random spot check.
- It's one of those things that mediawiki users expect, nay, take for granted that will be a feature. In competing with mediawiki, it's one of those things migrating users think "What? No Random Page? That's such a basic feature…"
- Bored users use it.
- It's fun.1

As opposed to the featured wikidotsite, the random wikidotsite could be useful for the GodKing to check …
No. Forget it !
gerdami, we're talking about a link in a person's wiki, that when clicked, takes you to a random page — in that person's wiki. There is no mention of a "random wikidot site" on the main page.
The random page link is a standard feature in mediawiki. Go to wikipedia and look on the side bar for "random page". Click it a few times and you'll see what we are talking about.

Hartnell,
I am not that idiot. I know what a random page is.
Just wanted to highlight, as you did before in some way, that the wikidot GodKing shoud put in place something to track empty wikidot sites or abandoned wikis.
Just fell on this meatball page on GodKing…
No, sorry, there is no special link "random page" available with such a function in wikidot for your own site.
But you can easily arrange some counter by the file numbres you get of your backup zip files and let some random - numbering decide which one of your pages you want to link in your menu. :) that is easy and not so much work if your wiki sote is small..
I would do it on this workaround-way until we have a solution . -Helmut

So… any new developments on this issue?

I would like to add my name to the list of people hoping for this feature.
I'm a refugee from ScribbleWiki. After careful, careful consideration, I went with Wikidot - partly because of its presentation, partly because of its considerable support in the forums, and partly because of its option for backup.
But I do _really_ miss a "Random Page" link on my sidenavbar.
Please?
THANK YOU.
It's already been implemented. Use order="random"
[[module ListPages category="*" order="random" limit="1"]]
[[[%%page_unix_name%%|Random Page]]]
[[/module]]

This does not work. It chooses always the same page…

The random page changes all 60 seconds !
If not, than this is really a bug!

I waited for 60 sec and it does not change. Besides, IMHO, I think that 60 sec is too long. It should be adjusted to 20, or 30 sec maximum. Or even less.
PS:Now it changed. I think that it is adjusted to more than 60 sec… Definitely it should be less than 60 sec, if possible…

I like the new function a lot, and I have already a number of plans what I am going to do with it.
Still, that 60 second delay is a bit annoying. Isn't it possible to refresh it every time the function is called up?

HANDY HINT!
Put the code in the sidebar, and every time you click it, it will most likely be a different page (no 60 second delay!).
I wrote this code in the snippets over a month ago, which explains what I have said more articulately — check it out!
The thing is, that I don't have sidebar everywhere, so if someone is reading some article (which does not have side bar) he has to go back to the front page (which has a side bar) and hit again the random page button. The problem is that if he does this in less than 60 sec (and it is possible - click to random, go to visit, go back and click it again to random button) he will obtain again the same page which, most likely, will give the impression of lousy web page organization, so the most of visitors will decide to leave the site.
I already tried to put this in top bar, since the top bar appears in literally all pages of the site, but it didn't work. Is there a possibility of this?
