If is it ok like a short link in the side/top bar with only words to tell what it is?

Using a free service to ad counter to the google search ressults is an old technic.

"SEO" means Search Engine Optimization , an old trick to use free webservices to install lots of real links in posts or pages to the "Own Business Website".
This puts the founded business website on search results some positions above…

Lots of little software bureaus or companies sell their knowledge how this is done effective.
It is real spam .. and not liked on Wikidot.
If it is only text - the search machines will find them too, but if it is not a link it is not so overtaking the result order.

Ahh what I was doing is simply to allow human users of my wikidot site (a gaming wiki) to purchase some of my own "in-game items" through my other sites ( but shared the link to the site in my wiki so that people would know).

Rather than letting search engines crawl it so that search engines such as Google discover my business website…

And it was like.. just one to two links in the side/top nav….

I am only Community admin and not member of Wikidot . That mean if you use your own free wiki alone for a little business than there is a great difference to the SEO spammers, who post their business link 1000´ends of forum and pages.
Nobody will take you before any legal advocat or justice for such behaviour.
