Some of you, particularly those who view the view via the recent posts page, will have seen part of a a discussion last night that I started in response to a post from Rainey/LaBlueGirl which indicated she was speaking on behalf of the wikidot developers. In the absence of any evidence to the contrary, and due to the lack of a response to a post from Ed asking about her over a week ago, I had assumed that her posts were some form of spam or from someone who fantasised about being a wikidot developer (don't we all!).
The discussion continued via many PMs over the course of the evening, some quite heated, culminating in an email from Rainey using the wikidot domain, and a PM to me from pieterh confirming that I had, as I belatedly realised, got things totally wrong and that Rainey/LaBlueGirl is indeed a wikidot staffer.
I welcome her to the community, as I'm sure do all the regulars here on the forum, and look forward to the help and assistance she will bring.
I just wish we'd been told about her, but it's good to know mechanisms are in place to address communication issues as indicated in pieterh's post on Timothy's hijacked ""custom footer thread.
I would like to apologise unreservedly to Rainey for making her feel upset and for what must have seemed an aggressive attitude. By posting on the forum I made public something that could and probably should have been resolved behind the scenes using PMs or emails. The forum is the main means of communication for many of us and it actually never occurred to me to PM her first instead of posting. That was wrong.
One of the things I really like about wikidot is not just the fabulous platform we have to work with but also the sense of community that exists on this forum. The age of the internet means we don't meet physically but nevertheless do form a bond of help and friendship which personally I find very valuable. The downside is that probably - just occasionally - we get a bit over-protective of wikidot, the forum and our small role in it. I was very guilty of that last night and so offer my apologies to all involved. But especially to Rainey who I know was upset by the exchange.
