After 18 months of enduring this skipping cursor phenomenon, I come to just anticipate it after every carriage return. And I simply avoid the command buttons. It's become second nature, so I hardly even notice it anymore. But it's still there, in IE6 and IE7. Others experience this too.
So I've adapted to the bugs. But it's wrong-headed to expect users to simply adapt to bugs.
Phil says the solution is to upgrade to FF. For any one user, that's a fine option. But last month 45% of the visits to our wiki were via Explorer. My goal is to make Wikidot's platform and our site work better for new users. Sure, Microsoft doesn't make it easy, and it may be cathartic to rail at MS. But it's not my role to convince users of Microsoft's failings. I don't experience this issue in any other platform's comment fields. Can't we fix this please?
I sympathize with anyone who grapples with coding for IE. But this is fundamental. If I'm a first-time user and I can't even keep track of the %^$# cursor, what's that experience like?
After a few years of amazing strides, Wikidot has developed a sophisticated cadre of power users, and it's provided them with many sophisticated tools. I'm saying it's time for wikidot gurus and the site dev team to think more like newbies for awhile.
