When I leave the edit box open for too long, clicking to recreate the lock many times, after 3 or 4 times the buttons no longer work at all and the edit is lost when you reload the page. After clicking it edit again it asks about loading a draft, but the draft already lost some of the text in the minutes before.

The Wikidot editor has numerous issues such as this which make it unsuitable for long-term editing. I would suggest doing most typing in Notepad or another editor and then copying into Wikidot to save a revision.
I'm closing my wikidot acc and moving everything to mediawiki.
I can see your wikis and they are amazing …
