I would like that the landing page when clicking on Howto tag cloud be a HowTo-LastPages driven by @URL, not the system page with a cloud of all community tags.
While the colours are not perhaps exactly what I would choose the design of the page is a vast improvement over the old one which should be retired.
Actually I think the whole community portal could do with a make-over: the blue/grey colour scheme seems rather drab1 2 to me.

Hmm, I suppose that perhaps being the Wikidot community, that it should use the Wikidot theme? It would provide a certain aspect of consistency.

I would agree with you James except that in fact I don't see a strong theme running through the wikidot site at the moment. The new "swish" styles on the education and business pages are fresh and colourful and I like them. They very nearly do what I think was intended which is to highlight different sections through the use of different colours. I think this use of colours for different channels on the site should be emphasised much more and that the community pages should follow that "swish" style as well with a nice bright colour and slightly softer theme than at present.
Look, this is silly: twice today I have made a comment about colour and I'm about as good at graphic design as your average elephant is at hang gliding. No, that's not a reference to you Phil, although…..
So James and Erich, yes I do agree with you although I think more work needs to go into making sure that each channel on the site is using a dedicated colour consistently, including the community pages..

Funnily enough, you are not the first person to notice the… err… "taste" in colours to be poor. Please, I insist, that you change the colours to better ones! Whatever tickles your fancy — just do it!

to create really good web pages you need two attributes.
1: A high degree of knowledge of various forms of code, and knowing how to implement that knowledge.
2: the eye of a graphic designer.
I have neither.

Colour schemes are always tricky because they reflect personal taste. There is no right and wrong here unless you do something really wacky which makes a site unusable. And I wouldn't say the colours on the page are poor. I would hesitate to change them as I would get exactly the same reaction whatever colour theme I used! I'm afraid this is one area where you can't please everyone.

I vote for choosing the Wikidot theme (and keeping it consistently throughout the whole Community site)
Oh, by "Wikidot theme", I meant the one called "New Wikidot" that Wikidot.com itself uses… are we on the same page?

I like to think that this community is somewhat independent from "wikidot", for various reasons, so my preference to a theme would be one that reflects that.
As i come from a country that is truly democratic, and has a political foundation of free speech, i shall go with the one with the loudest voice :-)

Thanks Ed, I particularly like Kuler which is a nice tool written in Adobe Flex.
Now let's hope one of the admins has time to start some design work.

i just had a look at some of the tools suggested. i had no idea these existed.
They can be dam useful.
I particulary like the kuler extract a theme from a picture thing.
There's a bunch more sites with tools like these, but it's starts getting redundant in a hurry. These were among my favorite finds when I was trying to give my site a make-over.

To preview available themes visit the Themes page - should we set up a voting system?
I'm happy to set up a polldaddy poll or survey if everyone thinks this is a good idea, but I don't think we should just limit the choice to existing themes when CSS gives us complete freedom of design.
