Title addition/modification by category

I wish there could be a way to change the page title based on the category. I believe now the system is format: [SITE_NAME]: [PAGE_TITLE]. Im am building a traveling site and I need the current country in the title. One option would be to add the country in every page title, but

• It is very cumbersome.
• More importantly, the country name would show on my navigation elements and ListPages…everywhere.
• Search results would be very bad as there are many same titled pages, but with different countries.

For example, I need to define, that category th has title format [SITE_NAME]: Thailand [PAGE_TITLE].

Not sure what you need…

1. Page Tilte has NOTHING to do with Page name ( Category:page-name)!

2. the title is by default the page-name ( without the "category"!)
- means - when you start a new page/article and put in the new page name ( in the url after the ….wikidot.com/) : "country:thailand" ( category = country, page-name = thailand) than you can edit the "Tilte" to "what you want"!
( i.e.: "th4711:Thailand (title)" )

3. Perhaps it is sometimes comfusing if the titles are complete different from the page names… butthis is more an issue of conventions to know….

My post was bit confusing. [SITE_NAME]: [PAGE_TITLE] format shows on the browser top bar, browser tabs etc.

1. I'm not sure what you mean by this. I read my post again and I don't see what it has to do with my post.

2. My navigation elements are mostly build my PageTree module, which takes the page's title. For example, if I have countries Thailand and France. They are like mini-sites inside my site. Both have same looking menus, but they are different in content(you can change the navigation elements by category). Both have a category "Destinations". Now If I go and open both pages, Thailand and France destinations, titles are the same. They look the same on search results, browser bars etc. If I add country name to the titles, it will clutter the navigation elements. It would look really stupid and fill the space if there read "Thailand - Page name" everywhere in the navigations inside the Thailand categories. I also believe setting descriptive page titles help with SEO? It is better to have title "Thailand - Destination" and "France - Destinations" than just 2 pages with "Destinations".'

Might the ListPages module work better for you? You can use the page title rather than the page name and have more flexibility in formatting the links. I think this is what Helmuti was getting at.

Unfortunately my navigation relies heavily on the tree structure. I am thinking some other type of navigation though, I don't really like the current one. Even if I can use the ListPages module, it doesn't help in this case. Maybe I'll just write the country name in the needed pages.

This describes using "soft" categories with the Backlinks module.

I'm just speculating - seeing a specific example of what your index is like might help, but it seems like the soft categories technique would allow you to do what you want.

You could create a page called backlinks:thailand and use it as your main index for all page in the th category. Then on all pages in the th category, include a link something like this:
[[[backlinks:thailand|This page belongs to [SITE_NAME]: Thailand ]]] (if the site name is important to display. This would also serve the purpose of providing a link back to the Thailand main index page.

gerdami can probably explain this more clearly - he's the author of the how-to and a big soft categories fan!

Hehe, bit off, but thanks for the effort and links. Gave me some new ideas! I think I'll manage with these.
