Ok. So. Yer a pro user.

You get a snazzy signature that appears on forum posts of all wikis of the network.

You use yours to show your fandom of Panda Bears.

Members of your Panda Bear wiki scream with delight, and then resent you because THEY can't have a signature too — because after all, it's a normal, VERY COMMON thing to have on a forum.

The Members of your I Like Snakes wiki see the Panda Bear sig and think WTF?

Anyone see the problems here?

I think the pictures in signatures are irritating - they distract attention, bring noise to the content… I'd rather the signature was a tiny, delicate trace of the user's online identity. Wikidot signatures in their current format - small font - actually are what I describe. Only the possibility to add images to the text bugs me.

They could ask one having a signature how they do it.

They could cheat and manually add their signature to every post
OR
They can buy a pro account if they really care about it so much.

Any problem with that? :)

Mr thinks you are missing the point here Gabrys.

There are certain features with the pro account that some will be tempted to PAY for.
Sigs might be one of them.
BUT by making sigs user wide instead of per wiki, they are in fact quite useless.

The day you started getting paid for this wiki stuff is the day when YOU HAVE to starting listening to the paymaster.

So let me make it quite clear for you.

User wide Signatures are NOT a reason for me to cough up dosh, as they are pointless and useless.
I had a pm from one of my members who inquired WTF i was on about in my signature.
it made reference to VIEW permissions, and ONE step registration.

I believe I have the opportunity to get a refund within 30 days.
that time scale is fast approaching and i may take advantage of that.

I have coughed up dosh, because i feel YOU are worthwhile supporting.
Be as good as to return the compliment thank you!

At present The ONLY reason I have to promote the PURCHASE of a wikidot account, is that i have faith in you, and that you will do the right thing.
Your reply to Hartnells post has not helped in re-enforcing that faith.

Phil, you're not paying ONLY for forum signatures, oh gimmie a break. On the contrary, I think that signature is one of the less worth paying feature. I don't know if you have noticed but we're implementing many new features regularly and we simply cannot make the world again in 7 days. Of course we can focus only on signatures and make it eye-candy-multi-functional-super-hyper-flashing-dancing-and-singing-thing in couple of days, but then, you or someone else, will say we're doing nothing else. We just simply have to divide our work force into multiple tasks to improve Wikidot on every field of user<—>service experience as well as on technical layer.

Please, just have a little bit of common sense and don't be over-demanding. I don't believe that you want to say: "Hey guys, I just have paid a fortune for you and you're just &^%$£" around!", don't you?

Wen I read this I remember all to the discussion of splittings from accounts to wikis ( like in Education) This all can open a little hell…

I had a look in the problem of site dependent signatures -

• Michal wrote 6. September here: "OK, at the moment we have introduced global signatures, perhaps "per-wiki" will come later."
• I made some tests with site - dependent signatures on my own profile: I inserted a standard include of a single page in my wiki- this is of course different per site - and tried to make an inline include with it.
• bad 1: - include does not work in forum but this is the kind how this has to function - a standardized "system:" ( or "admin", "sign" ?) page which is in the permissions open for all members ( with "pro2" account) to create but only the owner can edit it.
• bad 2: This can be seen in all standard postings where I have NOT ( yet) such special include page created ( like the communiity

• Question: what signature will be inserted in a site where I am NOT a member? Only my standard user profile signature

I write this all to make clear - that every solution brings us more than "a little setup" problem.

PLEASE: Note that I have not (yet) a solution by including site dependent signatures.

==> This does not work as long as "inline includes" are not working!
==> module Listapges with one page selected by category="sign" tag="+helmuti-pdorf" does not work
Now:
I made a test on my test site with my new Site-dependent signature - this works with "image tag… /page-name/image-name" this is exchanged if this page with the image is found on the site.

Now I have only the need to put on every site in the same page an image/screenshot of the issues, after the general one, I wamnt to show all the world…
I know - this is not the solution for links…

EDIT2:
I made some changes on my user: page here and uploaded an signature.jpg image to insert by stamndard in every site - postings.

Now this picture here ( it is "Kapla" buildings ) is different to a post in my:test site

and a 3. images is used in pro tracker site: post

Done in the account profile setup with:

Notice - there is a "rate it up" possibility on the wish of wiki/site dependent signatures on the Pro beta tester site!

I didi it!

As I understood this site will be ( or is ) the connection between "customers" and developer team .

I as a business man would first focus on the most wanted issues.

Workarounds are always possible.

As I have posted much earlier — we will work on per-forum signatures. But come on — we cannot work on everything at once, and believe me running a large service like Wikidot is not only about pushing new features. We are really glad you tell us the features you want, but it does not work the way that we implement every single feature the next day it is proposed.

In fact there are many more feature requests worth implementing that are scheduled to be dealt next month (January), forum signatures are on the list too.

Ok, no one is asking that per-wiki signatures be done tomorrow — in fact, I didn't even know you had considered it.

The point of this thread was to point out they serve no real function as-is.

It's another important point that as wiki creators, we have members ourselves.
