As we all know, everybody here is obliged to follow the rules of the Terms of Service.

As specified by the conditions:

…5. covering or obscuring any elements of any of the page that impair its functionality; this also include the footer which contains links to Wikidot.com main site, help pages, this Terms, Privacy Policy, and problem reporting

This seems perfectly fair to me.

But where are these elements on the Wikidot.com home page?

They have actually removed/hidden these elements, but have provided the same links in a pretty little footer box.

My query is this: are we allowed to do this also?

I imagine that because it is the Wikidot.com home page, it is entitled to exceptions. For instance, they do not have the "flag as objectionable", "report a bug" or "help" links. If we were to do something similar, would we be allowed to not have these links either? (I'm guessing the "flag as objectionable" should remain no matter what)

What about the first query: Are we allowed to hide the footer part, and create the same links in a pretty little footer box to display instead?

I'm here to answer your questions.

There is no conventional footer on the main page now. As it is Wikidot's main page we are allowed to hide the footer and make another one much more useful and nice looking.

As Phil Chett said: "we can, you can't" :) You have to understand that the new design needed many changes and — for me — giving the information Wikidot's main page is "Hosted by Wikidot" is a little bit strange, isn't it? Nevertheless now the footer includes more links and useful information, so everything can be found as easy as earlier.

It's true, there is no direct link to the forum, but it can be found on community page, which is linked from the footer. I hope it is not a big unconvenience and you will get used to it.

There is an idea to give possibility of hiding the footer in paid model, but we have not decided yet whether it would be possible of not.

I really hate it when you guys answer like this.

This could be an opportunity.

I think it should be ok (I have no power to make it ok) to hide the footer so long as you include a "hosted by wikidot" link on every page. There is no easy way to do this except to add it at the end of your nav:side or in your nav:top — or in default:_template — but these have their own issues.

Unfortunately, there's no easy, 100%` guaranteed way to do this.

There should (I wish, now that I think about it) be a nav:footer.

Also, so we know what you had in mind — exactly what did you have in mind — how would your service be improved by being able to do what you propose?
