Excuse me, Helmuti, but I am not sure I understand where I should look, and if there is a such possibility at Wikidot to have visible edit sections by default…

Sorry, I mean on the solutions wiki of wikidot "snippets": [http://snippets.wikidot.com/code:block-in-fixed-position-in-browser]
here you will find a typical "short" solution to fix such edit buttons on a fixed position..
Sorry, a "default" setup of edit sections is not (yet) possible…

1. Have a look at the [http://handbook.wikidot.com/nav:top] - here is a edit button used on the top menu:
* [[button edit text="edit:" style="background-image: url(http://handbook.wikidot.com/local--files/pics:icons/accessories-text-editor-16x16.png); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: bottom right; padding-right: 20px;"]]
2. have a look at the source of the edit sections button on the snippets solution [http://snippets.wikidot.com/code:block-in-fixed-position-in-browser]
[[button edit style="font:8pt Verdana; color:black; background-color:#fffff8; border-style:double;" text="_edit_"]] . [[button edit-sections style="font:8pt Verdana; color:black; background-color:#fffff8; border-style:double" text="_edit sections_"]]
You can use is on a fixed position on zthe browser screen:
[[div style="position:fixed; LEFT: 17pt; BOTTOM: 3pt; background-color:#e7e9dc; text-align:center; z-index:50"]]
[[button edit style="font:8pt Verdana; color:black; background-color:#fffff8; border-style:double;" text="_edit_"]] . [[button edit-sections style="font:8pt Verdana; color:black; background-color:#fffff8; border-style:double" text="_edit sections_"]]
[[/div]]
The edit section buttons is the same flip/flop switch as the edit section button at the bottom ion the additional options..
Hope this helps?
Your text content pages are very long sometimes - i would try first the fixed position at the top menue or on the outmost left side , some points UNDER the top menue in the short margin area before the text itrself.
or in the top menue as an extra point.

try using the fixed position dic in a permanent page like nav:top !
[[div style="position:fixed; LEFT: 1pt; TOP: 13pt; background-color:#e7e9dc; text-align:center; z-index:50"]]
[[button edit style="font:8pt Verdana; color:black; background-color:#fffff8; border-style:double;" text="_edit_"]]
[[/div]]
[[div style="position:fixed; LEFT: 1pt; TOP: 23pt; background-color:#e7e9dc; text-align:center; z-index:50"]]
[[button edit-sections style="font:8pt Verdana; color:black; background-color:#fffff8; border-style:double" text="_sections_"]]
[[/div]]
This works perfect! I tested it…

I tried, but it does not work. The whole text in the page header is moved and it is not nice at all… :(

Have you done this in the nav:top page at the bottom under all the menu points ( outside the menu!)
I cannot imagine that this does not work…. where have you tried my code?

where have you tried my code?
I think she's tried it in Spain :)))

just outside barfelona to be exact
Which, fortunately, is nothing like Hull…
edit:
More seriously… the code that helmuti describes is fine in IE. not so fine in ff :-(
Sorry, but the code is working in FF too…( in FF 2.0…!)
And - @Brunhilda: you have to change the positions and layout of the buttons to what ever you want…. perhaps use pictures like you want instead of the links…

Oh, don't be so mean with Helmut, guys! :D
Helmut, I did put that as you said, and I don't like it. The buttons go over each other and they are in a left upper corner, where they don't belong…. Vey ugly, i have to admit… :(
I prefer waiting until our developers make the feature for it…. Thank you anyway! :)

1. The pictures on the top menu are not to see in IE(7)! Only in FF (2.) I can see them.
2. I have seen yesterday eveing the 2 links left top corner ( to high positioned) and they worked as expected. In IE and in FF!

I know about that, Helmut. But as those buttons need only those who edit the site, and all of them use FF, than there is no need for them in IE… ;) And those who want to print… They should pass to FF. ;)
I'll try again with changing the parameters, and I'll get back here to tell you about it…

Hi Helmuti. I found out how it works… And now I have this little button in the right bottom corner. I put only edit-sections, because this one is the most necessary one… On my private site I put all three of them…
But there is another cactch… It cannot be seen in IE… Which, as I said, is even better, so the visitors with IE don't see what they should't see…
I think the problem is in icons…
EDIT: Interesting. I added text and then both text and icon appeared in IE. If I remove text, both disappear…

Fine !
1. I think this is the usage of "png", but in indirect form thru your http://tinyurl.com/6g9fon instead of explicit used extension ".png" …
[[div style="position:fixed; right: 0pt; bottom: 0pt; font-style:italic; z-index:50"]]
[[button edit-sections text=" uredi " style="background-image: url(http://tinyurl.com/6g9fon); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: bottom right; padding-right: 20px;"]]
[[/div]]
2. In the community nav:side we use "direct urls to "png"'s:
[[=]]
[[button edit text="edit" style="background-image: url(http://community.wikidot.com/local--files/nav:side/accessories-text-editor-32x32.png); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: bottom right; padding-right: 20px;"]] [[button source text="src" style="background-image: url(http://www.wikidot.com/local--files/files/view-source.png); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: bottom right; padding-right: 20px;"]] [[button print text="prt" style="background-image: url(http://www.wikidot.com/local--files/files/document-print.png); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: bottom right; padding-right: 20px;"]]
[[/=]]
3. You should use the "long" url for the picture:
http://istorijska-biblioteka.wdfiles.com/local--files/slika:icon-tab-edit/tab_edit.png - it has the ending "png"!
Could be , IE cannot detect the png and therefore cannot insert the image?

On the other hand - a text=" " should be enough….

No it is not. Now I have just put the true url ending in png without passing it through tinyurl, and it still does not work in IE… But never mind… It is perfect as it is now…. :)

Hhehe, I am a genious…. (Not modest at all, I admit)…
I found a transparent picture and put it as a button, so the button is invisible. Only those who know where to look for it, can find it….
Am I a genious, or am I a genious? :):):):)
PSA:Thanks again Helmuti because you insisted so much. If you hadn't, I wouldn't have had found out this marvelous solution to all our problems about edit buttons…
I think I shall write a snippet about this…

I found it per chance :) - without hacking - but it is VERY good hidden! Who does not know where, have no chance…

Well, you can put it wherever you want, since it is transparent, it cannot be seen… I put all parameters to zero, so it is right to the bottom and right side of the screen…

And: it is not working in IE…..:)
