Private sites are not indexed by Google or the other search engines.

Public sites most certainly are.

However, a previously public site that is subsequently made private will still be listed but shown as "The site does not exist" as for one my sites below:

Hello - I would like to create a private site and understand how to limit access. What I am concerned is whether or not the title of the wiki and/or the content gets indexed by Google. I would like to be assured that the content is not indexed. I seem to have some recollection that the wiki title is indexed but when you click on it you get a message saying that is accessed by Membership only. Can anyone tell me if this is correct? I have used monobook theme on my newly created wiki (http://aina.wikidot.com). but i could not enable discuss button. It was using talk:start command earlier which did not work. I would like to get the same thing in top menu as we have in discuss button at the bottom wikidot default menu. how can i do that? Currently i am running forum:start from top discuss button. I will be thankful for the help.

I have changed the custom domains settings and now everything is allright. Noredirect/true is working fine and we tested it both on Firefox and Safari. As usual this is probably the problem with the cookies or so, that they cannot handle the session on the custom domain. Firefox 3.0+ with Accept 3rd party cookies should do the job. IE is strongly not recommended and not supported.

Felipe Mayworm: Please do not demand answering your mails in 10 minutes at 9 p.m., ok? We're working in CET hours (CEST now actually). For Pro users we guarantee 2 business days response. Usually it's not more than 12 hours. At business hours it's 5 minutes to an hour or two if the problem needs deeper inspection.

Looks like a little bit of a wikidot lexicon problem. He's not having trouble editing a page, he's having problems logging in on a custom domain.

We used to have a problem with that, didn't we?

You don't appear to have used a "redirect module". It looks like you have a custom url for your wikidot page.

Please describe exactly what happens when you try to edit your frontpage located at http://felipemayworm.com/

Just add a couple of words to that page and tell me what it does.

At the upper right of your site there, does it show that your are logged in just like it shows at the top of this community site?

The Wikidot is so good, but so good that I have this error and support e-mail (moc.todikiw|troppus#moc.todikiw|troppus) not replay me yet.

I can't edit the redirected page and I can't access the http://pro.wikidot.com/ in the last case my browser stay in loading all time.

I don't know what do I need to do? I read some post but nothing can't help me :(

Here in my post, I wrote wrong, but I wrote admin correct in the url.

I didn't delete or damaged my pages, especial admin:manage

I put:

or

But I am redirect to:

I think - gerdami means a typwriter error in your url :

http://felipemayworm.com/admin:manage (you wrote "amin:manage" - but why do you want to edit it ?

Either you have "damaged" ( or deleted ?) your admin:manage page - than you can create a new one ( with the /noredirect/true ) -
or you have damaged your permissions by forgotten your password ?

Than you can havea new one resend by wikidot at the login screen and login new with the new password…

I did this:

But, it isn't ok yet.
My pages are redirecting to my new url.
For example, I put this:
felipemayworm.wikidot.com/amin:manage?noredirect=true
But the url go:
felipemayworm.com/amin:manage?noredirect=true
And cant edit my pages.
What do I need to do?

She's just viewing the site and downloading some files that are already on the site. The site is http://jennifergillanandkodaly.wikidot.com/

The site is private and requires membership. I will ask her if she's logged on (or accidently logged off).

I suspect she is not logged into Wikidot. What do you mean by "using the wiki"? Adding and editing pages? Simply trying to view it?

Which of your sites are you talking about?

If your sites are not private, then we can all see them and look around, but if you require membership to edit pages, etc. then she needs to be logged in to access those functions.

A few more specifics would help narrow this down.

Hi,

I have a member of my educational site who's emailed to let me know that after successfully using the Wiki for about a month she can't use it any more. Is there anything she can try to get in? She's done nothing different and I haven't blocked her.

Which of you 2 sites are you trying to enable MembershipByPassword?

If it's Cnaenvironmenthealth, it looks like you are close, but have some kind of typo that is causing the module to be displayed as text and the module is not rendering properly.

If you are a member of the CNA Environmental Health list serve you are welcome to join this site - the password for joining is 'CNA'… still trying to figure out how to ensure that you can get to the password stage… [[module MembershipByPassword]]

After going through Helmuti's checklist, try editing your system:join page and put [[module MembershipByPassword]] on its own line.

It should work then.

Go to Site manager members - Policy and click on the "Enable membership by password" box:
put in your Password
Mail or pM the password to your members
read the point aboce the little box:
- It is also possible to become a member by providing a valid password. The corresponding widget (form) is generated by the module
put the following code on the "connect" ( normal system:join") page

[[module MembershipByPassword]]

and you will have the application by password inserted at this page …

Hi,
I'm a new administrator - I've figured out how to set up the forum categories and I've invited people to join but now I want to be able to post the password and have wiki.com members join themselves. I clicked on the enable password and entered the password but there is no link to joining… directions say by providing a valid membership password (if enabled) — but how do I enable this link on the how to join the wiki page?

This is straying a bit from what fleecy is trying to accomplish, but since PDF files were mentioned, it rang a bell with me.

You can use the [[image ...]] markup to display thumbnail links to many (but not all) PDF files. The Wiki syntax help briefly touches on this and I never really gave it much thought until our marketing guy wanted to start posting a bunch of PDF files on our wiki.

I did some playing around in my sandbox to show how it works (or doesn't):

The bottom line is that it generally works, but not all the time. It would be nice to know what the specific limitations are (if they can be defined) to eliminate some of the trial and error. It's a nice way to display links to your PDF files when it works.
