Hello - I would like to create a private site and understand how to limit access. What I am concerned is whether or not the title of the wiki and/or the content gets indexed by Google. I would like to be assured that the content is not indexed. I seem to have some recollection that the wiki title is indexed but when you click on it you get a message saying that is accessed by Membership only. Can anyone tell me if this is correct? Thanks. -LoreM

Currently i am running forum:start from top discuss button. I will be thankful for the help.

I have changed the custom domains settings and now everything is allright. Noredirect/true is working fine and we tested it both on Firefox and Safari. As usual this is probably the problem with the cookies or so, that they cannot handle the session on the custom domain. Firefox 3.0+ with Accept 3rd party cookies should do the job. IE is strongly not recommended and not supported.

Felipe Mayworm: Please do not demand answering your mails in 10 minutes at 9 p.m., ok? We're working in CET hours (CEST now actually). For Pro users we guarantee 2 business days response. Usually it's not more than 12 hours. At business hours it's 5 minutes to an hour or two if the problem needs deeper inspection.

Cheers!

Hi,
Please, help me…
I did this:

" If the Redirect module redirected the browser always there would be no way to edit the actual page. The solution is to pass an extra parameter to the module in the URL as follows:
http://your-wiki.wikidot.com/page-with-redirect/noredirect/true "

But, it isn't ok yet.
My pages are redirecting to my new url.
For example, I put this:
felipemayworm.wikidot.com/amin:manage?noredirect=true
But the url go:
felipemayworm.com/amin:manage?noredirect=true
And cant edit my pages.
What do I need to do?

Tks,

Felipe Mayworm

This is straying a bit from what fleecy is trying to accomplish, but since PDF files were mentioned, it rang a bell with me.

You can use the [[image ...]] markup to display thumbnail links to many (but not all) PDF files. The Wiki syntax help briefly touches on this and I never really gave it much thought until our marketing guy wanted to start posting a bunch of PDF files on our wiki.

I did some playing around in my sandbox to show how it works (or doesn't):
http://pizzageek.wikidot.com/sandbox:pdf-preview

The bottom line is that it generally works, but not all the time. It would be nice to know what the specific limitations are (if they can be defined) to eliminate some of the trial and error. It's a nice way to display links to your PDF files when it works.

-Ed

you have spaces in the file name. Not a good idea.
Remove spaces then you can provide a link to it (eg entry.pdf)

Hey there 8-)

created a site for a charity event and I have the entry form in pdf but there doesn't seem to be anyway to upload the pdf so that users can click on it and download it to their computer. Reading through the logs, some people did seem to get it working but then it stopped. Seems like this would be a much used feature so is there a way to do it? I really don't want to have to export a pdf as a png ;-)

cheers

fleecy

There is an alternative to relying on gadgets for spell checking if you are using IE7. There is a free add-on called IE7Pro which adds a number of features to IE7, one of which is a spell checker which works exactly the same way as the Firefox spell checker. It will highlight incorrect spellings while you are editing your wiki page. It underlines the word it thinks is wrong with a solid red line. If you right-click on that word a menu will pop up with suggestions for the correct spelling or an alternative word. You can add the word to the dictionary if, as in the case of the word "wiki" for example, it doesn't recognise the word.

Rob

Thank you for the suggestion I have now installed an add-on dictionary from google gadgets (dictionary.com). For my students I would prefer a dictionary in wiki pages that automatically highlights an incorrrectly spelt word (underlined in red, like in a word document). Is there a way I can configure the wiki to do this? In my previous post I said when using fire fox as my browser incorrect spelling was highlighted when editing pages, but not using IE7 which unfortuanely is the browser I have to use.

I am afraid - I have never seen a spell checker in IE ( 7) — could be there is an Add-On you can seek and install.. ( in the extras) ..

Perhaps some other have a better idea?

Hello, I'm a new user of wikidot for student activities. I was using Fire Fox as my browser but school browser preference is Internet Explorer so have changed to that. However now using IE the mispelling function is not working for typos when editing a page (it does in FF). Thanks for your help.

Fixed. Bad regular expression in the matching code so that when the page was named "news2:3" it naively was taking "2" as the number of the page.

Thanks again for the report!

I have actually received this error from auto numbering. If you auto number a category namespace with a number in it, it messes up. I autonumbered "news2:" and began creating pages. It did "news2:1" and then skipped to "news2:3" and errored. Just warning people…
