I am against a "community" skype chatroom - the "file transfer" is one of the most dangerous things we ever had detected in it.
If you have it on YOUR site , than this is the problem of you as admin to clarify the results of such usings with your members. :)
I mean, we here on the community site cannot open such a "big window".

PS: as Fereal mentioned - I have removed the "chatango" chat from the menu - not the page itself.
Whoever wants this chat can use it with a link to that page on his own wiki…

There is the problem with the gabby-chat too, if I click on the chat button I get a new window with the chatroom ( easy to work with!) , but on my original page the counter has not changed…could be this is only for me relevant and all other "see 1 or > online! ?

They're not the same. The Gabby chat is a real-time chat room, and chatango is some sort of upgraded tagboard/shoutbox.

Chatango should be removed. Not only has it become a spambox, but tagboards are only useful if they are displayed throughout most of the pages (eg placed at the sidebar).

Craig, I've been thinking a lot about the chat thing. Considering various aspects of the real-time support (including that in a conversation the shared knowledge does not remain in any database to be retrieved later) I came to the conclusion that a Skype chatroom would be the optimal solution. Why?

=>
- you can see when the other is writing so as not to interrupt him;
- you can send and receive files - onvenient for transfer of screenshots!;
- you can talk - sometimes it is so hard to explain what you have in mind that the matural voice conversation is the only solution, especially for beginners.
- unlike irc you would not have to register your nick.

I know this does not solve all the needs related with real time support but if it proves useful we can build on it and maybe, come up with new ideas later.

So what do you think?

With two, it is unlikely that any one will be in ether. Any way, who wants an IRC wikidot room? I will be in it a lot if we have one. I can make a room and post details here.

Currently there are two chatrooms on Wikidot:
http://community.wikidot.com/chat-room
http://community.wikidot.com/chatango.

Let's have only one, there would be a greater chance for more people available at the same time.
