I do not understand why you do not create a duplicate of your wiki site as a "private" one, only allowed for your mods.

I did that, because I really don't like the fact that our conversations are visible to the whole world, and tried to make my two members to use the forum of the private site, but it does not work. It is much easier to just click to the button "discuss" and to write. So, if I am unable to make maz TWO members to use private forum, I just can imagine that for others that have more members this would be simply mission impossible. :)

I just cannot understand what's the wishes feature for if the wishes that have one or two votes are fulfilled in a very short time, and the wishes that have much higher number of votes (like this one - 38 for now) and people are desparate to have it are simply ignored?

How were you invited to a wikidot site to be a member? by Mail ? Than you should go back to your mail and click on the link …

The difference to the first time is now: your are a registered member of Wikidot and need now only to make login to the wikidot com server (not register again).

In this case you will not leave the visited wiki-site.

@Dante, This is the community site made for discussion of wikidot itself. You appear to have stumbled away from the wiki you were participating in. Thus, (probably) no one here knows what any of that means. If you have a bookmark, use that to get back to the game wiki you found and ask them. They should be able to help you.

@ wikidoters, The above is probably an example of how One-Step registration would help everyone, including new wiki members. He joined today, ended up on the main wiki site after joining, didn't realize he needed to hit back on his browser however many times, followed the community forum link thinking he was still on whatever game wiki he had found, and well, how he made in this particular thread is beyond my soothseeing ways, but nevertheless, here he made it. But he hasn't managed to actually join the wiki he apparently tried to join in the first place.

That's not even the worst case scenario. The worst case is people getting completely lost, never making it back to your wiki, and giving up to go someplace that isn't so complicated to navigate. Most the people here on the community forums didn't have trouble with it, but the average internet user does.

So if you haven't rated up the One-Step registration solution, please consider doing so now.

Creating a private separate parallel site for select users, while an option, is not a very good workaround.

The best solution is an administrator function to create user subgroups and an ability to apply subgroup-only view settings to certain topics…

This is what what many full-featured forum platforms do… Like Invision Power Board, for example…

I don't think wikidot forum needs a lot of the full features that these power forum platforms have…

…But it should have this one…

I'd like the option to have the option of password protecting subforums, not viewable/postable without permission of some sort. If not a password, then a custom permissions set, so you can pick and choose members to allow to view and post inside it without changing their overall status.

One application is for gaming clans, who typically have some subforms open to the public, and others hidden from view. Even registered members can't get in without permission of some sort. Even among the membership, not everyone would be allowed in every forum, so some members can only view the clan forum for one game that they've qualified to compete in, and others another forum. For a clan like that to use wikidot, they'd have to have several different private wikis spreading across several different games.

Obviously admin, mod collaboration has been mentioned, but even in those cases, you might want to bring a member into a particular collaborative effort without modding them.

Yes, I CAN create a separate private wiki. This would still be a nice feature.

What you mena is a "actual selected and changed " link for specific members…I see no possibility for this in wikidot without a lot of work to do.

Easiest way is to show two links in the side menu :

one for "forum-public" ( or only "forum" )
and
one for "forum-privat".

The members know very fast that there is a parallel forum for the mods and admns only… why you want to hide the link ?

I do not understand why you do not create a duplicate of your wiki site as a "private" one, only allowed for your mods.
They can discuss anything hidden from the other visitors on the "parallel" mods-forum.
And the menu-link to this forum is a standard link as usual… it makes no difference in the usage!

It is not a real secret for most of our visitors, the admins of this community- site have their own little "hidden" forum on such a parallel wiki.
