Problems inserting eps images

Using the image wizard, I put the normal code in the wiki

 [[image test.eps]]

but instead it puts a link like

test.eps

on the page.

If I click on it, it opens ghostviewer, an eps viewer I have installed, and I can see the picture. I kind of like that there is a link to the veiwer, so I can blow up a plot, but I would really like to see the image on the wiki.

On the other hand if I use an svg file, it inserts it as an image OK.

Ideas of how to fix it?

a standalone editor for the wikidot syntax?

What do you think about the creation of a standalone text editor for the wikidot syntax? It would have convenient features such as colouring the different syntax elements, automatic saves, etc, just like any good html text editor. I guess it would not be hard to create, especially on the basis of some good open-source applications of that kind. What do you think?

Broken URL types & better templating

Hi,

I've just started setting up a wiki and I've discovered several problems with the WikiDot syntax I haven't been able to resolve.

1. If I want to create an entry that has a : in it (Such as 'Infinity: The Quest for Earth'), how do I escape this correctly without creating a new category.

2. URL links containing a right bracket don't work e.g. linking to a wikipedia entry like [http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_(computer_game) Rogue] breaks. How do I escape these (hint @@ doesn't work).

3. The whole category/templating system feels very limited compared to MediaWiki. I don't want to have to rewrite an entry every time I create a template - I just want to specify variables that I can drop into the template. I also don't want to have to specify that an entry uses a template by forcing the entry to be game:Rogue everywhere I want to link to Rogue that happens to use the game template, it would be much easier to have to do this on the destination page, so I can just reference it as Rogue elsewhere.

e.g. the MediaWiki equivalent is:

Hiding elements of a page

I noticed that through CSS you can hide any element - if this were used to block the bar that says "Hosted by Wikidot," would this be a violation of the terms of use? I looked through them, but I couldn't tell.

I have just started using wikidot… there are two things for which i need help…

1) When i create a new page I want an email to be sent to all the members of my wikidot site… How do I do that

2) Also I want all my page tags to be displayed of the same font size even if the number of pages differ…

I'd quite like a program that scours all my pages for page titles and sets them as links.

Also, tagging is not only a chore, but some of my visitors don't do it. This would be tricky, but automatic tagging would be great.

I'm creating a wiki expressly for the purposes of helping creative writers improve their skills, and it is intended to be a serious artistic resource rather than the usual flaky writing groups. With that in mind, it is entirely possible that some of the writing that is posted on the site will have what some might consider adult or erotic material (though no actual porn).

My question is whether this falls inside the bounds of what wikidot.com considers objectionable content. I can't find any information that details wikidot's stance in this regard, but I do note that there is a link at the end of each page for "flag as objectionable". Can someone clear this up for me, as I think the service that Wikidot could potentially provide for this site of mine is invaluable, but I need to ensure that the writers who submit to the site can be assured that their speech will be free.

I wish to build a collection of my collected literary works on a private HTTPS wiki with wikidot. All of my written material is my own and none of it may be used elsewhere without my prior direct consent. In other words, I wish to ensure that in posting material to wikidot, I retain ownership of this work and the rights to publish this work elsewhere.

Will my creative work be safe, in as far as such work is ever safe, if posted on a private wikidot?
Is there an appropriate Creative Commons license that I should use?

Eventual migration

I've just founded a private wiki at wikidot. So far I'm the only admin, but I expect there will be others.

A question popped up in connection with the launching of the wiki. In case we want to move the wiki someplace else (as in the event that we obtain a dedicated server or something similar), how does one go about migrating to a new place? Do the page contents need to be copied one at a time, or is there a centralised method for accomplishing this?

In any case, thanks for a wonderfully functional and nice-looking wiki. I'm really hoping this will take off (I've run a couple of wikis before, but they were not too successful. I suspect the raw appearance of the interface was a major factor in them.)

For a problem solving competition, several of my students are addressing the problems of allergy sufferers. One component of their project is to create a website listing all of the hotels and motels with allergy friendly rooms in each state. They are making it a Wiki so that others can add in the contact information and website addresses of allergy friendly hotel they know about. My question is, if they search for allergy friendly rooms, is it then free-use to put the contact information and website address for the hotel into a wiki directory, or do they need to be contacting each individual hotel and motel to ask for permission?
