Greetings,

I have an odd one in that the Forum is working well and the serach facility is fantastic (but could benefit from adding Wildcards).

However, if I select to view a catagory which is several pages long, I am unable to scroll through each page. For example I land on Page 1 and the options at the top show the next few pages, and if I click '2' for the next page it refreshes back to Page 1 again.

Incidently if I perform a Search I can happily scroll through multiple pages of results with no issues.

Am I doing something wrong ?

I have checked and cookies are enabled for the site.

Many thanks,

Paul

Is it possible to include a the full text of a thread in a page? As far as I can tell, frontforums seems to show only the first post of any thread in a category. The Comments module seems to work well, but I'd like to lift an existing thread from the forum and pull it into a certain page.

I suppose I could set up an RSS read for the thread, but I imagine that wouldn't preserve the thread's structure.

Okay, I am a newbie. I have started a private access wiki for my Girl Scout troop. I BELIEVE I have set up my forums properly. But here this is what happens:

I go to my site and see the word "FORUM" on my side menu bar. Below it are two choices "Forum" and "Recent Posts". I click on the choice marked "Forum" and my page with all my Forum Categories appears. Each category appears as a gray block with the name of the category and the little blurb that I wrote beneath it on the set-up wizard. Each of these gray blocks is separated by a row made up of thin white bars with the words "Category name", "Threads", "Posts", and "Last post". There is no way to click on these words.

Question1: Shouldn't I be able to click on these words in order to add a thread or a post to a thread in one of my categories? If yes, then why can't I do this?

At the bottom of the Forum Categories page, I see the RSS icon with the words "new threads" and "new posts". Aha! Maybe THIS is how I post something to one of my categories. I press the words "new threads" and I am presented with a box covering most of the page. The box has a blue border at the top with a picture of keys. The words "Connect to troop2858.wikidot.com" is written at the top of the box. Below this it says:

The server troop2858.wikidot.com at Private requires a username and password.

Beneath this, it says:

Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection)

I then see the word "Username" beside a box with a pulldown menu. It has an icon of a woman's face and my username. (There is another choice that has my e-mail address). Below this is an empty box with the word "Password:" beside it. It has a "Remember my password" box below it and two buttons reading "OK" and "Cancel"

I enter my proper password and hit the "OK" button, but the box comes back again, without my password. I try clicking the words "new posts" next to the RSS icon and the same thing happens.

Eventually, I am given a screen that says this:

The XML page cannot be displayed.
Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

Invalid at the top level of the document. Error processing resource http://troop2858.wikidot.com/feed/forum/threads.xml'. … [Note: the line ends after the elipses. The page contains one more paragraph. See below]

This is a private feed. User authentication required via Basic HTTP Authentication. You cannot access it. Please go to 'Acc … [Note: the line again ends after the elipses]

Question 2: Should it even be asking me for my username and password in order to post to one of my forums?

Question 3: Is it possible to uninstall the Forums (perhaps by deleting all of the Forum pages on my site?) and reactivate the forum feature all over again?

Thanks!
Is there a way to mark posts as "read" in the discussion forums? We have just added forums to our wiki and it's very annoying to not be able to see if there are unread posts in a thread without clicking on the thread and scrolling through. I know you should be able to theoretically tell if there are unread post by looking at the time stamp of the most recent post and remembering when you were in there last but that's asking a lot of people who are involved in multiple forums on multiple sites - especially where other sites clearly show read and unread.

If it makes a difference, this is a private wiki so all participants are logged in.

TIA!

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place… was just searching on google for help with .PNG files and ended up on here… I'm not sure if it's the right place to sign up to ask this.

Anywayyy… Just wondering if anyone knows why .PNG transparent background files sometimes display a black backround? The backgrounds are always transparent when in a normal picture viewer on the computer, but when I view them on forums they have a black background. Until today I assumed this was the same on everyones' computer, on the particular forum that I use, but found out today that some people see a black background and some people see the same images with no background… Is there some setting I need to change or something for the .PNGs to work properly on the internet? Cos they're fine on the computer itself. Not sure if I'm making any sense!

Thanks for your time,

Emma x

Tools are use for Social Technology is web sites, telephone, mobile, wire-less, etc. Now we can use internet to communicate each others by using internet broadband, real-time audio and video conversations, teleconference, and plain text.

We know internet friendship is make relationships or communication by using internet. There is have some debated and often criticized.

“Virtual communities are social aggregations that emerge from the Net when enough people carry on those public discussions long enough, with sufficient human feeling, to form webs of personal relationships in cyberspace. In this view they are perfect places for enhancing the civic fabric of society.” (P. 62)
-by Rheingold (1993),

Some people are concerned about the influence the computer has and will have, on our daily communications. Dire pictures have been drawn of pale overweight adolescents gazing myopically at the screen and gnawing at cold potato chips, while the rest of the world plays in the sunshine outside. The pessimists see these young people retreating into isolation, unable to communicate with people, their total lack of social skills the direct result of their mastery of the computer, which they use for games, but not for communications.

There is another very different picture. Although there will undoubtedly be some people who cannot bear to leave the screen, the vast majority of people will use the computers as a means of communication with others.

Internet is now rich enough to offer people many of its tools to communicate each other. Thousands of web sites are offering their databases just for entering your profile. Few sites are hosting chat-servers, video conferencing is being popular nowadays and the traditional E-mail is there and it will be.

Findings:-

A simple case study: 1:-

John is studying in an Australian university and his parents live in England. He wanted to inform his mother that he was doing well and everything was fine. How could he inform them? By sending letters, which takes at least three days or call her, which would cost him more than diner or just send her an E-mail which is fast and cost all most nothing?

People can E-mail friends in different countries and can get reply swiftly and usually in brief. In fact the very nature of communication by E-mail is somewhat casual. Sender sends his message and receiver ensures that the message is understood. Swift, accurate communication has occurred, with a great saving of paper. There is no checking back into old letters to see what was said in the first place.

If E-mail communication is quick, convenient, and casual, the chat line is quicker and wilder. This is conducted in real time, which means that people can contact each other and type messages, frequently misspelled in their hurry, exchanging views around the world. The language used is brief and to the point, communication of the idea being the supreme goal. There was a time when jokes traveled around the world when international telephone operators shared them during the long, boring night shifts. Those old jokes took about twelve hours to become current elsewhere. Today a joke can be in cyberspace as soon as it has been invented.

Communication by Internet enhances meeting people not only to serve social purposes but also business purposes. Today video conferencing is a widely used technology to meet people and share views or make business decisions from a distant place.

——MD>ANISUR RAHMAN KHAN
2622418

We have a blocked thread (no more new post) that is regularly read/referenced by our members. The thread title needed to change to make it clearer to our members.

I was logged in as an admin, and went to "more options" > "edit title & description". The edit box appeared, but when I pressed "save", there's a programming error message saying some function is missing. I re-tried several times with the same result.

I had to remove blocking status, edited the title, and then went back to enable blocking.

I'm not sure this is a bug or a feature of wikidot.
