It's currently in limited preview. I watched the "loooooooong video" (1:20) last night and it is quite impressive! My son-in-law got an invite from a friend of a friend of his brother's and has been playing with it for a little while. I have a feeling Google has another huge hit on their hands with this one.

Once this goes live, it'll be interesting to see how we might use this with Wikidot. If you can make the time, I highly recommend watching the video.

I have been redesigning one of my sites and in the process changed my menu system. IE was displaying some collapsed menu buttons badly so I changed how they were collapsed.

This uses just CSS styling to make the drop-down menus. Unfortunately, now it turns out that IE can't understand "active" from this line: #side-bar li:active (CSS is on the page, it's at the bottom).

So now I have to have it activate by simply hovering http://www.havemycv.com/ :(

It really is a case of banging yer head against a brick wall with Internet #&*!%$ explorer…

… AHHHHH!

This website has a lot of good information for secondary mathematics teachers. It gives a lot of good tips for teachers. It has different curriculums for secondary mathematics, tips for calculator use, different cooperative learning strategies, and even educational philosophies. I think this would be a good site for any mathematics teacher. I think you could basically find any information you needed to know just on this one web site. It is a credible site because it is a government site.

This is a very informational site for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. I know this is a very credible site because my Teaching of Mathematics professor advised all of the future math teachers to become a member of this site. It updates teachers on different things going on in education. The standards are listed; there are different lessons on the website, and journals posted by other teachers.

Math-drills.com seems to be a very helpful website for teachers and students. There are thousands of free worksheets that are printable off of this page that teachers are allowed to use in their classroom. On this website you are also able to generate quizzes or tests for a classroom. There are also games and filler activities related to math for holidays and other occasions. It’s also very organized so the materials you may be interested in are easily available.

This website would be good to let your students log on to. It could help them with basic math strategies through games and worksheets. The website is very organized into math subjects so the students would be able to work on the subjects that are giving them trouble.

PBS.org has a lot of resources for teachers as well as students or parents. You can search this webpage by grade levels, subject areas, and then specific topics. There are even lesson plans that you can search through that are free for anyone to use. Along with lesson plans there are also a wide variety of games and activities to use inside the classroom.

Question about copyright

I would like to use some pictures from the WWI and to put it into my site, but I am in a doubt about the copyright.

I know that in the USA everything that is made before 1923. is in public domain, and that will be ok considering that the Wikidot servers are in the USA and ar ruled by USA laws. But… The book I want to use (to scan the picture), is in Serbia, it is a Serbian book and probably, Serbian author. Should I guide myself with USA laws, or should I see the Serbian laws on copyright?

Tuesday Rant

It's Tuesday here in Scotland. Will be all day. What is Tuesday? Tuesday is the day of rant ("le jour de la harangue"). But we get to Tuesday and what do we find? Nothing. No sign of the rant page whatsover. I've looked behind the sofa and tortured my children with soft cushions to see if they had hidden it, but no, no sign of the page at all. So we wikidot-type people demand …..a shrubbery. No we don't, we demand…..the right to rant. If we don't get it we will run into the wikidot offices and cut down the CEO.. with a herring. Or we could have him arrested for failing to put up a rant page; for a first offense he'd probably get away with crucifixion.

Is there a particular reason why we can't use HTML in our wikis? We could do so much more powerful things, such as javascript for instance… without having to do the silly iFrame/embed external code trick.

Thanks to our brilliant old chap RobElliott, the CSS guru, and his post, I was able to experiment with this whole new world of CSS. I realised you could do block-quotes with a quotation mark in the top-left and bottom right of the blockquote block using this CSS:

Hello everyone, thought I'd post this here as well as the general forum:
Firstly, I'd like to thank wikidot for creating such a great service! It took me a little bit to get used to the coding, but they make it really easy.
Secondly, I'd love to get some feedback on my wiki. It's about climate change, energy, carbon offsets and so on. There's loads of information which I've tried to display in the most readable way possible. If you're interested in just learning a bit more about climate change, or are a professional needing some in depth analysis or statistics then I think this may be the place for you!

Hi. Been a long time. Nice to see you all.

So there's this new admin, LaBlueGirl. And… that's all we really know, isn't it?

I'm sure quite a few of you have looked at her contributions and seen, well, not much.

Not much of an explanation either.

More importantly, what does this mean for you?

I can only say what I know, and that wd has been attempting to fill the position she's in for a long time now.

One final note, I have spoken with Michal as soon as yesterday and I've been informed that I will be relieved of my duties as head admin relatively soon as the official head admin cometh soon. Whew! It's about time. :) I do feel sad, but really, is the Zaphod Beeblebrox of wiki (me) really right for this position?

Let me clarify this : she's not here to lead the community. I don't believe that wd looks at this community as a community — but as a support forum for wikidot, i.e. technical issues.

She's also here to listen. I'm sure she reads more than she posts because part of her job is to get the message through to the devs about features you want and need. I used to do that myself — with varying degrees of success.

I'd like you to give her a chance in the role she has.

I can confidently guarantee that she'll be the best one yet — because that's what's she's experienced at.

Consider for a moment, who has filled this post :

In some part, myself — a wiki whacking madman but not a part of the official wikidot team. I was more of an inspirational leader with no power to affect any kind of change.
After me it was Gabrys — programming genius. (And math wiz!)
Squark — design genius. (You should see some of his work.)

None of us have been in the right place with the right connections and experience to do this job properly — except her.

She's the one you've been waiting to show the wishlist to.
