This is really just a shout out to residents of Japan (Japanese or not) and to anyone who can speak Japanese and English.

Where abouts are you, how long have you been in Japan (or, "how long were you in Japan", if you've left)?
how good is your Japanese?
Did you have trouble when you first got to Japan (buying food etc)
- especially if you've got special dietary requirements, eh?!

me first:
I've been living in Nagasaki-ken for a year and will soon be going home.
Language ability is medium i guess - 3kyu JLPT level?
had some trouble buying some items (and following recipes) until i got the awesome DS japanese dictionary :p
my GF is a veggie and we had serious trouble finding her stuff in the countryside!

anyone else?

Come test our Mac and Windows MMORTS game. Extremely early development released: not close to done.

Come test our Mac and Windows MMORTS game (That's Massively Multilayer Online Real Time Strategy). There are still tons of bugs, and very few features, but it actually works (sometimes). Currently it is not much more than a map viewer, but our map is a galaxy of (currently 400) stars orbiting around, each with several planets (also orbiting). It shouldn't hurt your computer, but I'm not going to promise anything. Also, it is quite likely to not work (especially the windows version. I'm going to make a more computable zip for it soon)

http://f-g.wikidot.com/

I just put up this new release a few minutes ago, so we haven't updated all the screen shots and videos yet.

We not only use wikidot for our public site, but nearly all the behind the scenes collaboration is done across several private sites, and we have in game wiki help powered by wikidot. It is still certainly a work in (early) progress, but it is going very well. Eventually we will be combining the game server's database and possibly client side generated data with the in game help wiki. We already have our http://f-g.wikidot.com/server-status page that directly connects to our game server. We also have http://fg-encyclopedia.wikidot.com/tech:test which is in a category where every page iframes a file corresponding to that page off our game server. This will be used for loading stats and such for items in the game. This is done by having the nav bar (hidden) iframe a java script on my server which redirects to a modification of the referring URL.

Wikidot can do a lot of things, collaborative sites, product presentation sites, interactive sites, embedded sites, and more.

Editorial : The Wheels of Progress Begin to Turn

The wheels of progress have begun to turn, despite nay-sayers. Want proof? Well, first, I have to say Pffft. to those people who responded with a "We've heard that before." I'll let this speak for itself :

Page

Description

Misspelling

Correction

Status

http://www.wikidot.com/doc:wiki-syntax#toc9

Start of second sentence describing bulleted lists.

To increase indent

To increase the indent

Fixed.

http://www.wikidot.com/doc:wiki-syntax#toc14

5th table row down

Ducumentation

Documentation

Fixed.

http://www.wikidot.com/doc:wiki-syntax#toc16

End of Sentence.

[#anochor-name text to display].

[#anchor-name text to display].

Fixed.

http://www.wikidot.com/doc:wiki-syntax#toc23

Sentence above Advanced (custom) tables heading.

For a newline inside the table…

For a new line inside the table…

Fixed.

In addition, several other corrections have been made, Gabrys just corrected them as he went along. Next we will deal with the errors in the wikidot interface. These are a bit more difficult as they are hard-coded.

Community Manager

It's official. I'm "Community Manager", which is about an official of a title I seem to be able to obtain these days. However, my responsibilities are not limited to the wikidot community proper — such as hunting down spam sites. Grrr. Evil spam.

Dev-List

A google group has been set up as a temporary dev-list where we can talk about ways to improve wikidot, how to fix bugs, and other such things. Here it is :

http://groups.google.com/group/wikidot?hl=en

I encourage everyone to join.

Extra Points

Monicans and Breegans are symbolic of something to do with the future of wikidot. Can anyone guess what it is? :) Once this has been established, I'll reveal the plan to deal with spam wikis. I'll give you a hint, an old girlfriend used to use "Trevor Goodchild" as a pet name for me. Hmm…..

Be seeing you,
Shawn N. Hartnell, sayer of "Pffft."
