Maybe page lookup for the page link wizard could be done dynamically as you type by offering suggestions..

And/or a way to search a list for the page you want, perhaps with collapsible categories if you're keen (:

The current setup is a bit of a pain - if you don't know the exact name of the page you want to link to, you have to go open it somehow, or open the list of all pages or some such. While the wizard is open, you can't do this..

For instance, to use the Gatherer, you do this:

[http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?name=Force%20of%20Will Force of Will]

gets: Force of Will

So, I propose, in the Admin control panel, "Create New Link Template", that would then have static link, then text to add, then anchor text, so for a link to the gatherer it would look like this:

[link="gatherer" Force of Will | Force of Will]

To get the same link.

Or,

[link="gatherer"]

Would open up a blank Gatherer window. (well, in thi case a Card Not Found window, but hey…) or

[link="gatherer" | Gatherer]

would have the anchor text be Gatherer.

limit parameter of Pages module currently works as a cut-off point, discarding the rest.
I request that we rather get a Next button/link at the end so that the user can see the next limit number of entries on another page when it's clicked, than cut the list off. Naturally, the mid pages should also give a Prev link/button to complete the expected behaviour.

Let's say you want to change something on every page of your wiki, or you want to change occurrences of some text throughout the wiki and you don't feel like going through every page that contains that text. In this case a wiki-wide Search and Replace would come in very handy. Perhaps it could even be a part of an Advanced Search which would allow you to search for occurrences of some text based on other criteria, such as date range or page contributor.

Currently, when the Pages module is used with the preview option, it gives you the first few words of that page's content. It would be nice to have optional page summaries within each page, so that when the preview option is used, if there is a summary present within the page's source, that would be displayed instead. Google Wiki, for instance, uses this functionality to have summaries next to page names in the list of all pages in a wiki:

#summary One-sentence summary of this page.

Apparently the "#summary" tag delineates the text from this tag to an end-of-line as that page's summary, which is kept invisible in the page's content.

Without this or similar functionality, a user wishing to list his pages with summaries would have to list them by hand on every reference page:

[[[category:page-name | Page Name]]] -- One-sentence summary of this page.

With a summary within each page's source, however, the user could simply use:

[[module Pages category="category" preview="true"]]

A feature that would be welcome is to make tag changes visible in the history tab. As of now, there's no way of knowing if tags have been changed or removed, and by who. This means that anyone with the access to edit pages can also edit or remove some or even all tags on a wiki without it registering in either recent changes, the history tab, or in meta data.

This is a serious flaw in my opinion, and for anyone affected, you really need to look into a way to redesign or fix this security hole. One way would be to make tag changes visible in the history tab, including who edited them and when.

An alternative solution to this problem would be a "Permissions" setting, where you can decide who is allowed to edit tags, so that you can restrict tag edits to, for example, members, moderators or the admin only. That way only authorized personnel will be able to change or remove tags.

Hi all,

I liked the simplicity of the glossary code on the snippets. However, the current limitation of the code puts all the terms in a single list. This is fine if you only have say 20-100 terms, but what if you had a lot more? I assume you would need to anchor it. Something like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Architectural_glossary

My girlfriend has spent the evening coding the anchors correctly, as you can see at: http://ocar.wikidot.com/test

But I can't figure out how to integrate it with the existing glossary code snippet. I like the ease of adding new terms, but it would be great to have the same organizational functionality as the example given.

Thanks,

Jay

Greetings all,

I'm new to the site and just exploring around with some design possibilities. In researching and testing, I really see no major difference between tags and categories. Neither seems to provide much benefit over the other. Am I missing something?

The real reason I was researching is I've been looking for a way to have sub-categories, or sub-tags, or categories that are sorted by tags, or tags that are sorted by categories. Basically, I've been looking for more ways to filter the results on a page other than just by one criteria. In my testing, it seems the current way to filter/display the results is either by a category or by a tag. In all my testing, it just doesn't seem like one is better than another. I can assign multiple categories to a page, but can only filter on one at a time. I can put multiple tags on a page, but again, I can only filter by one at time. So, what gives, why are both an option if when it comes down to it, you can only use one or the other? Seems like categories and tags provide the same thing, but are simply labeled differently for who knows what reason?

Long story short… I would love to see the ability to have sub-categories, or simply the ability to filter pages, child pages, pagetree's, tagcloud's, etc. by more than one criteria.

I use a private wikidot site for research between myself and my collaborators. Wikidot's features make it perfect for this - especially support for embedded maths and bibliographies.

However, I find myself copying out the same bibliography entries on different pages. I was wondering if there was some way to allow a single BibTeX (or RIS) file to be stored in a wiki page (or linked to externally, say through CiteULike) and then citations within other wiki pages could refer to those bibliographic entries via the standard BibTeX citation keys.

This would make it much easier to manage references and reduce the possibility of making mistakes when copying and pasting. It would also be great to have some kind of reverse index - that is, be able to find which pages cite a particular paper.

Wikidot would be much more powerful for our private company wiki if file links would be recognized (so that I can link to documents/folders on our company server).

The hyperlink parser seems to recognize key words such as http:, https: and ftp://

It would be really useful if it could recognize the key work file:
As a simple example, paste this as a link into your browser and see what happens
file://C:\WINDOWS\
(assuming you're on a windows computer).

Wikidot doesn't recognize the link at the moment, and just displays the text. A clickable link would be perfect. Thanks to the developers for a great resource, I'm really impressed.

Cheers,

Jon

The syntax to do this could be something similar to:

wiki-cat-1:wiki-cat-2:wiki-cat-3:wiki-page

or

wiki-cat-1;wiki-cat-2;wiki-cat-3:wiki-page

or

wiki-cat-1_wiki-cat-2_wiki-cat-3:wiki-page

I would love to see this feature implemented, if at all possible.
