1) use the NewPage button snippet from http://snippets.wikidot.com/code:newpage-button

As you can see, that puts it into the same category as the current page.

2) Use the NewPage module:

[[module NewPage parent="."]]

An example of where I use this is in the live template that controls the pages here. The button at the bottom of the page creates a new page under the current page.

How can I create a form (_template), to automatically add all added pages to the same PARENT as the current page. Or should I rather say, link it to the PARENT page it is created from. Is there any function available to do that?

2)
How can one also auto assign new pages to the same CATEGORY in which it was created. This would make working easier for visitors not to 'link' pages to the Global / Main CATEGORY, but well to the same CATEGORY from which the page was created.

Could anybody help, please?

I created this post to inquire about the status of efforts to create a mechanism for automatically importing and restoring from a saved backup. All existing threads on this topic seem to have died a year or more ago.

Will this ever happen? Is anyone working on it? I am a researcher and I have created an "internal" wikidot site for my lab that could be used for everything to recording protocols, planning and reporting experiments, collaborating, posting lab news, etc. I've been taking a pilot run on this site for a few months and have, by myself, generated hundreds of pages with linked files and data. Presently, my backup is to print a hardcopy of all experimental data to keep in a more traditional lab notebook, but I am hesitant to set my entire lab loose on this site before I am confident that it is secure (i.e., that it won't go away one day).

These are the newest set of Wikidot Editor Buttons. Everything was carefully hand crafted pixel by pixel, it is also entirely vector, so if you edit the PSD in .Zip file attatched you can scale these buttons to any size if needed. I included a CSS stylesheet for the coding of the "sprite" images, all you need to do is just upload the sprite images to your site and place the CSS at the bottom of your Stylesheet. I also included a fully layered well organized PSD file for everyone so you can customize these buttons how ever you'd like.

I will also be using these buttons in the new Wikidot CSS theme I am creating. Please refer to the Wikidot Community for more detailed info about this new theme and the release date. So for now, please enjoy these buttons as a preview of the new theme.
