is there a way to make a phone optimized version of a site

Yes but it would probably require a complete re-write of your site-wide CSS. I am not aware of any sites on Wikidot that have been optimized for phones. But have a look at the thread at http://community.wikidot.com/forum/t-438436 where Ed discussed responsive web design. It is something I will be looking into closely over the next few months and I suspect we will be trying to use responsive web design for the complete re-design of the Wikidot community site during this year.

is it necessary to display the search bar?

I found an alternative google image search api example and have re-worked the javascript and css slightly so that it returns just a single image, there is no search bar and the image is larger than it was in the previous version. You can see an example at http://vineyard.wikidot.com/herb:5 with the code in the html block at http://vineyard.wikidot.com/herb:_template

Is there a way to automatically create internal links? Ive got tons of herbs listed in the formulas section that I would like to be links to the pages of that herb (even though they are not up yet). Or could I use the link container on the form, or do I have to go through each one manually?

like here in composition:
http://www.chinesemedicinewiki.org/formula:bai-he-gu-jin-tang

Thats Cool Rob! So is it necessary to display the search bar? Ideally I would like to just use it to display images until people upload some but I'd like them a bit bigger. Is there a concern that the depreciated API would cause problems anytime soon?

yes, but is the place for this 50% enough for this lot of text?

I was kind of hoping the text would wrap but when I tried it alot of elements did not.
The main reason is that it looks funny on my phone with that bottom right box sticking out further. On that note, is there a way to make a phone optimized version of a site that would allow a re-direct? Because that would be nice…

at http://vineyard.wikidot.com/herbtest:_template where I have demonstrated this for you

That was helpful, I tried to cut and paste just the cell, table, and div elements and it kind of borked the page (my fault im sure) so for now I have just left it as is… Even on yours the bottom two containers look funny, as if they don't properly wrap text.
Perhaps a set width is just easier and more stable.

How do I get the Listpages to display in a few columns? do I need to use a table for that here:http://www.chinesemedicinewiki.org/herbal-formulas

Is it possible to add an Iframe that automatically does a google image search for the herb?

Yes, because we can pass the value of a dataform field into an html block (which I think is a very recent addition to the functionality) it's possible to use the google image search api to do this. The code is below and I have set it to search for the latin name on wikipedia but you will probably have a different source.

[
]

Google AJAX Search API Sample

Loading...

[
]

You can see this working on the pages in the full list of herbs at my test page at http://vineyard.wikidot.com/herbs:main, for example the herb Agastache rugosa at http://vineyard.wikidot.com/herb:5

Yes you can force each of the lower column widths to 50% but you need to turn the whole thing into a single table, use floats and percentage widths for various elements. This is called a fluid or liquid layout. Have a look at the source code on my test page at http://vineyard.wikidot.com/herbtest:_template where I have demonstrated this for you. If you change the browser width you'll see that the left and right cells remain at 50% of the width of the top row.
