The module has been recently modified to open the comments form by default as described in the documentation:

The bug: the default value "false" is not accepted as a valid parameter for hideForm.

Gerdami, this is true for all modules: they do not accept an explicitly stated default value.
See column “allowed values” for the (only) values a module parameter accepts (in this case “true” and “yes”). Most surprisingly the default values (in this case “false”) are never in the list of allowed values.
And this is bad !
