Description
In the forums we have a "hidden group"
yet by a click of a button this are viewable by anyone.
i can see good reasons for having a "hidden" group. But surely these should be viewable by admins and mods only?
or is there something i am missing?

Hidden threads are to hide them from the people, rather from indexing bots and first-time users.
They can just contain some crap like SPAM and such things, not really interesting to every user. But if someone IS interested they can read this.
Hope this clarifies a bit.

thanks Gabrys for the clarification. Would you object if i said i felt that it should be available to mods and admins only ?
I think Phil is right, it should be available to those with mod and admin rights only. The reason why you would like to hide some posts and threads is that so no one should be able to read it anymore (like for example spams with some nasty contents in it, or some nitwit who would like to make fun out of something or someone)
Yeah I'm going to agree with the tilt in this thread, I think there should at least be an option for site managers to check that makes the hidden section only accessible to admins and mods. My reason is because once my site goes live it's going live to about 300 or so (just this semester) college students. I'm almost certain a few of them are going to break the established rules of the forums or post up some unpleasantries. I would want to delete these all together (but since that option doesn't look to be available) it would be nice to have the ability to at least seal them away in the hidden section blocked off from public access. Also there will be Chairs of departments and even a Dean or two that may check this out, I'd be reallly upset if they got on and somehow managed to get to this apparent "cache" of inappropriate or unpleasant material. I'd either like to see this get fixed or have a means of permnanently deleting enabled.
You can always MOVE a thread ( +more options right top a thrad) onto a "hidden" group & category
and THAN DELETE the posts ( NOt THE Thread!) inside the moved thread.
This is ony possible for admins (normally)
This is what we do with SPAM here in the community - have a look on our hidden "deleted" thread you will see what I mean.

I, and I believe the rest of the posters here are aware of the option Helmuti we simply think it isn't entirely practical. It doesn't necessarily resolve the issue and if it does it is anything but efficient. A simple hard delete button would be preferred or at the very least making the "hidden" forums actually hidden and only allowing Site Owners, Admins, and Mods, to veiw it. Just trying to pose suggestions that I think will take this already great service through the roof and I think this is one such element that is necessary for people who are hardcore forums users and advocates.
You want a "delete" button ( which is on a very clear statement from Michal long time ago NOT a good idea in a wiki) .
I ask now - where is the difference - you can always DELETE a single post.
Only the problem NOT to DELETE a Thread is disturbing in this procedure - first move the thread or move it not - let it be as a warning in the landing category and change only the title - before deleteing the single post?

Yes, I can delete posts and move threads and all of that. I understand. That is not the issue here. The issue is even if I move the thread it still exists in the hidden (which are not hidden from anyone) forums. My intent for removing a post would be because I would not want everyone to be able to see it. Thus to return to the initial subject of this post, it would just be easier to make it so the "hidden forums" were actually hidden, this would at least pacify me in this attempt. However as it stands the process of removing informaiton from the forums remains cumbersome, course, and by no means resolute. I would either like to see a permanent hard delete or the hidden forums hidden. I think that would add to wikidots already awesome tool.
The hidden forums are hidden by default. They should only appear if you press the show hidden button. You can stop it from working by making a new page called forum:home and putting this code on it.
Then, on the forum:start page, put a redirect module that leads to the new home.
Then you can begin making new links to the forum:home page. Since the show hidden button brings you to the forum:start, it should redirect back to the forum:home making it very hard to see the hidden forum. Unless you really tried, you couldn't get to them.

I do not understand till now what the diference is ?
You either
OR if it is only a single post in a long thread and you want to hold the thread as it is.
All indexes are set correct, the database is fine and consistent in itself and all poibters and all the postet content is no longer available anywhere for anybody ( the admns too).
A "Delete" button is a dangerous thing anyway with opening a lot of problems ( therefore always a "renaming" is offered to prevent from readl deleions)
Why should a database admin or developer start a long development only to reach the same result as with standard features?
The admins of this forum fight against spam and sometimes simple mistakes coming into the forum in such an easy way - and all is for ever "hidden".
