Community CSS OverhaulBy Over the past couple of days,
The old theme has been in use since the beginning of time itself (aka, the creation of Wikidot), and was long due for a revamp. Now the community site is visually appealing and thus more user friendly to look at. Please remember to thank Rob for his valued hard work! Remember, whilst you can only rate once, you can send thanks as many times as you want. The more thanks you send him, the happier he will feel :) Tags: community css rob Related Community Blog PostsThe following posts have similar tags and may be related to this post.

Yes, he's done an amazing job with this!
Hmm… I don't think he'll like it if someone sent him 20+ thanks and filled up his PM inbox! ;-)
Sent two, nonetheless..
If you've got a copy of the old forum:start page anywhere(?) you should put up a comparison of that page as well. The blue headers look great!

Watch Avatar 3D. It is THE most spectacular film I've ever seen. It is really, genuinely EPIC.
No DVD or even the regular version of the same movie can match this in 3D on the big screen.
Thanks Rob, it does look nice =)
I sent three!!!

Thanks for the comments. I think it is not so much a radical overhaul as an incremental improvement to lighten and brighten the site a bit. There are lots of further improvements we can make to the design so do chip in with any ideas.
Awww, you're very modest Rob! Just for that, I'm going to send you my thanks 5 more times :)

Rob, if the mails are getting annoying… speak up :D I'm sending some more myself. It may be an "incremental improvement", but thanks for getting the ball rolling where no-one else could be bothered to! ;-)

Well done, Rob.
The level 2 "recent posts" in side menu, looks very strange since its font color is not in harmony with level 1 menu and also it's the only level 2 menu (but this has nothing to do with CSS).
Indeed, menu items (left and top) should be revised, reordered.
I've written a short news item on the new community CSS. Nice work, Rob!

Perhaps James was not born yet.
Have a look the very first Community theme !
Wow! We've come a long way!

That was a great facelift and tremendous job by Rob Elliot. I do have one comment for improvement .. the shaded blue on the left hand side fades onto the text on the left column making it difficult to read.
The side bar fading into the background was a deliberate decision, but I do admit it causes an issue with the text when not hovered over. I'll look at this again.
I'm really impressed by how the community has really stepped up to offer a range of well-designed themes.
Looks Awesome :)
Well done, Rob.
The changes which are taking place today will introduce a different header colour, container colours and sidebar colours for each of the main categories. As this is being done on the live site there might be some strange visuals during the day while some of the colours are being tested.
And the best: I can read now the links in the tag cloud on the left side…. !

Nice work, Rob. I especially like the wintery backdrop on the community home page! I think I see Brunhilda shivering in the corner!

That wintery backdrop was gerdami's change I think. It looks nice.
It was an idea stolen/borrowed from http://squark.wikidot.com and submitted as http://css-competition.wikidot.com/package:9.
PS:It is not snowing anymore in Belgium…
PS2: I have a gmail account and I really find amazing the changing theme along the day, i.e. I have chosen a mountain theme and the brightness changes along the day.
:P
I just hope that there will be also a category with a gold-yellowish header and a beach/palm trees/mojito in the background… ;)

No problem Brunni, tomorrow I will create this category just for you. But first you will need to tell me what a mojito is! I think it's probably a small furry animal with horns and unusual teeth. Am I close?
Hah! We've now warmed up: it's only -9C. Summer's on the way.
Rob, you make me the sunny theme, and if you ever come to Barcelona, I will take you to have mojito at chiringuito… ;)
Imagine having this:

This is Barcelona beach chiringuito. I recognize the plastic glasses, tables and those beach deckchairs…
I simply cannot understand that there are people who still prefer cold snow to this…

I spent many years living in hot countries with beaches just like that. Pah, it's over-rated. Eventually you get tired of the sun, the cocktails and the scantily-clad women. You just long for the joys of digging the car out of a snowdrift and finding it won't start, of having to lie a frozen pet rabbit in front of the log fire to revive him because he got too cold last night, of frozen pipes that stop the washing machine working, of going to bed with a hot-water bottle and still being cold, of having a house built in 1890 that never gets warm unless every thing is turned up full and all the fires are on. Luxury! But you try telling the kids of today…
Yeah right!
Brunhilda,
Hotlinking pictures is worse than borrowing pictures from the web: you are borrowing bandwidth as well.
You are free to delete my posts if you think I did something wrong.
I was only joking with Rob. I didn't mean to do anything mean or bad, whatever that hotlinking meant.

I like the change of seasons. Admittedly, winter is not my favorite season, but it makes the other months that much more enjoyable.

hehehe… You sound like the tale about fox and sour grapes… ;)
BTW, you have a spammer in the How may we help you forum…

Hehe, earlier today the BBC Scotland website said:
¿Que? What other flights could there be?
Edit: actually there is a sensible answer to that as the "circuits and bumps" for pilot training have been stopped. But it still made me laugh.
I prefer admin green to forum green…

Brunni, thanks for that. I've swapped them over and I agree that the change produces a better result.
I like the left and right grey shadows.
Rob, the new community buttons are very smart! :-)
