Community CSS Overhaul
GoVegan 11 Nov 2009 14:54
Over the past couple of days, RobElliott has worked very hard to give the community site a massive CSS overhaul… check it out:
Old | New |
The old theme has been in use since the beginning of time itself (aka, the creation of Wikidot), and was long due for a revamp. Now the community site is visually appealing and thus more user friendly to look at.
Please remember to thank Rob for his valued hard work! Remember, whilst you can only rate once, you can send thanks as many times as you want. The more thanks you send him, the happier he will feel :)
Yes, he's done an amazing job with this!
Hmm… I don't think he'll like it if someone sent him 20+ thanks and filled up his PM inbox! ;-)
Sent two, nonetheless..
If you've got a copy of the old forum:start page anywhere(?) you should put up a comparison of that page as well. The blue headers look great!

Thanks Rob, it does look nice =)
I sent three!!!
Thanks for the comments. I think it is not so much a radical overhaul as an incremental improvement to lighten and brighten the site a bit. There are lots of further improvements we can make to the design so do chip in with any ideas.

Awww, you're very modest Rob! Just for that, I'm going to send you my thanks 5 more times :)
Rob, if the mails are getting annoying… speak up :D I'm sending some more myself. It may be an "incremental improvement", but thanks for getting the ball rolling where no-one else could be bothered to! ;-)

Well done, Rob.
The level 2 "recent posts" in side menu, looks very strange since its font color is not in harmony with level 1 menu and also it's the only level 2 menu (but this has nothing to do with CSS).
Indeed, menu items (left and top) should be revised, reordered.

I've written a short news item on the new community CSS. Nice work, Rob!

Wow! We've come a long way!
That was a great facelift and tremendous job by Rob Elliot. I do have one comment for improvement .. the shaded blue on the left hand side fades onto the text on the left column making it difficult to read.
The side bar fading into the background was a deliberate decision, but I do admit it causes an issue with the text when not hovered over. I'll look at this again.

I'm really impressed by how the community has really stepped up to offer a range of well-designed themes.
Looks Awesome :)
Well done, Rob.

The changes which are taking place today will introduce a different header colour, container colours and sidebar colours for each of the main categories. As this is being done on the live site there might be some strange visuals during the day while some of the colours are being tested.

And the best: I can read now the links in the tag cloud on the left side…. !
